Learning Together, Achieving Forever

Year 1 Clay Workshop

Yesterday Year 1 experienced another of our yearly highlights. Not only was the sun out but we got to do a clay workshop with a local artist called Fatima. As our current topic is The Secret Garden she designed our clay learning around this. Everybody learnt to coil (this involves making a pancake shape and attaching sausages to it) to form a clay pot. Can you remember the name of the liquid that kept the clay together? The reason we all made a pot is so that we can keep something top secret in it, just like the garden is a secret that we are learning about. On the lid of the pot the children created a cactus using photographs of them for inspiration. Finally we painted our pots and are now patiently waiting for them to dry before we add a second coat. A wonderful experience for the children to work alongside a professional artist and to find out that she always makes mistakes with her artwork too!
