What is Circle Time at GBPS?
Circle Time is a weekly session that’s used to help develop positive relationships between children, covering key issues including: friendships and bullying, how to keep healthy (physically and mentally), feelings and current affairs. It aims to give children the tools to engage with and listen to each other. It’s often used as an opportunity to solve problems that are affecting the class, the year group or sometimes the school as a whole.
The whole class takes part in Circle Time at the same time, led by their teacher, who sits in the circle with them. Each class has their own circle time mascot, set of golden rules and a "Bag of Worries", which are discussed on a weekly basis. The circle encourages unity, respect, turn-taking and working together towards a shared vision. It also helps children work on five key skills, without which Circle Time doesn’t work: thinking, listening, looking, speaking and concentrating. It links closely with our school values ans growth mindset approach!
