Diwali Fun in Year 1

This week the children in Year 1 have been learning all about Diwali as part of their Festivals topic. Everyone has enjoyed learning about this and it has been wonderful to see the children so engaged with their learning. In literacy we have been focusing on information texts all about Diwali. Can the children point out a at heading, caption, image and the text at home, in a non-fiction book? They then used this information to create their own Diwali information booklets, which they will be bringing home to share. In Art the children have been having a go at making their own rangoli patterns, a particular favourite was creating them using colourful rice. We have also been listening to music that would be used in a Diwali celebration and watched videos all about Diwali and the Diwali story. The children should be able to tell you some facts about this at home. Here are some photographs of what we have been up too.
