This half term the children have been very busy learning all about our Farm topic. We kicked started our topic with a visit from Mill Cottage Farm. For most of us this has been the highlight of this half term. I wonder if you can remember the names of any of the animals that came to visit us? During the visit we got to see a goat be milked and watch a live demo of the goats milk being turned into cheese!
This half term we also went bananas! We have be learning and writing about the journey of bananas; starting in Costa Rica and ending up in Fyffe's factory in Basingstoke. Did you know a banana is known as a finger and a bunch is called a hand? As part of our Geography work we were comparing Costa Rica to our local environment. The weather is certainly different to ours.
We then created our own banana characters and wrote our own stories based on these. We have been working hard on remembering capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
In Art we looked at the famous artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. He is well known for creating portraits out of seasonal fruit and veg. We enjoyed designing and creating our own faces using real food.
Welcome Back to School and Welcome to Year 1
We have enjoyed welcoming our lovely Year 1 children back to school. They have impressed us with how well they have adjusted to being back at school and our new routines and systems, which are in place to keep us safe. They have particularly been fantastic at washing their hands and getting use to the staggered start and finishing times we have. It really has been a delight to see the children catching up with their friends and talking about the adventures they experienced during lock down.

We are kicking off Year 1 with our exciting Farms and Festivals topic. The children will have the opportunity to be involved in lots of exciting learning opportunities. This includes a visit from Mill Cottage Farm, a Food Festival and a talk all about bananas! We will be learning about different types of weather and identifying animals by their groups, such as mammals and reptiles. We have lots to look forward to and will certainly be very busy with learning about all of these new things.
If you need to contact us please send an email or make a phone call via the schools admin office account. A member of the Year 1 team will also be available at the gate, at drop off and pick up times, for you to pass on messages to the team.
We look forward to spending time getting to know the children and supporting them with their learning.
