Ordinarily Available Provision

At Great Binfields Primary School we pride ourselves on offering all children, regardless of need, high-quality inclusive teaching and an environment where they can flourish.  This is what is referred to as Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP).  These are the everyday strategies and resources which all children can have access to if needed.  Not all children will need to use them, they are simple there to ensure that all children can feel included and have access to their learning.

Here are a few examples of OAP that can be seen at Great Binfields Primary School.

Inclusive teaching in every classroom

Our staff team work closely together to discuss the needs of all children and ensure that lessons are carefully planned and adapted.  This ensures that all children, regardless of their learning style, ability or interests, are able to fully participate in the lesson.  Staff will use a range of resources throughout their classroom to support each individual in the most appropriate way.

Adapted tasks

Staff will provide a range of activities and resources so that all children can learn at the level that is appropriate for them.  This ensures that all children are challenged and making progress in their learning.  The adaptions may be in the form of visual support, practical resources or tasks, extension challenges or work broken down into smaller chunks.

Consistent Classroom routines and expectations

Every room will have clear structures, visual timetables, clearly labelled resources, and consistent expectations to help children feel safe and secure in their environment.

Small group support

At times, children may work as part of a small group being supported by an adult. This may be the class teacher or a learning support assistant.  These sessions may be used as overlearning opportunities, reinforcement of key skills or as an opportunity to challenge and extend learning.

Access to resources and tools

To support learning, children will have access to physical resources.  This may include word banks, writing frames, maths resources, sensory equipment or technology.

A caring and compassionate learning environment

As a trauma-informed school, we take pride in building relationships with the children and putting connections as a priority in helping children feel safe and valued.  All staff have completed trauma-informed training as well as training from Primary Behaviour Services.  We use the strategies of emotion coaching and PACE, alongside our zones of regulation to help children develop a strong sense of self-worth and resilience.

Outside learning

At Great Binfields we recognise the importance of being outside and the many positive effects this can have on children both mentally and educationally.  We encourage the use of our woodland as part of our everyday curriculum, giving children opportunities to learn both inside and outside the classroom.

All of the above provision is for everyone at Great Binfields Primary.  We feel that an inclusive approach benefits all children.
