  • Year 5 STEM Science trip

Today some of the Year 5 pupils were lucky enough to attend the Basingstoke Primary Schools STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Fair at QMC. The children took part in a range of interactive activities ran by different businesses. The activities/ companies included:

AWE - problem solving with a focus on how light travels

Institute of Engineering and Technology - electricity and making circuits

Jackson Rowe - designing their dream house thinking about choice of materials

QMC Primary School Science Centre - making and launching rockets

Chartered Institute for IT - creating instructions to think about coding

Blatchford - focusing on putting together and taking apart prosthetic limbs

Hampshire and IOW Air Ambulance Service

    ThermoFisher - microbiology and DNA

    FAAC - sensor challenge

The aim was to educate the children about STEM industries and career options, as well as challenge perceptions and job role stereotypes. They had a great day and Mrs Franklin was very impressed by how well they took part and displayed the GBP school values.
