Here at Great Binfields, we believe in providing children with opportunities to develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. It is essential that children understand the basic building blocks before moving onto more complex methods. The National Curriculum provides clear steps to help children make good progress in their learning and it is vital that they gain fluency and experience mastery in these steps before exploring further.

We have provided a number of short videos to help demonstrate this clear progression within the formal methods. These methods are aimed at KS2 children who have gained a broad and in depth understanding of the number system within KS1. It is not vital that every child reaches the final stage, it is more important that all children have a strategy that they feel confident in applying in lessons and throughout their lives.
