Learning Together, Achieving Forever

Year 6 WW2 Day - quick that's the air raid siren!

Today, Year 6 experienced a day in the life of an evacuee! The children took part in a variety of different activities including: sewing, gardening, World War II themed drama and an Anderson Shelter experience. They also delved into a historical artefact box which contained replica items from the suitcases of a range evacuated civilians. The children were in awe of these authentic artefacts. All of the children looked fantastic in their evacuee style costumes and had clearly put in a lot of effort to fully embrace our topic themed day.

During our drama sessions, the children were brilliant at empathising with how civilians would have felt when they heard the air raid siren and discussed how difficult it must have been to be in a constant state of alert. Once they heard the air raid siren, the children took shelter in our Anderson Shelter, which is located in our woodland area. It was wonderful to see them getting into role and taking a moment to truly understand what life would have been like during wartime Britain.

The Year 6 children have been incredibly enthusiastic about the history of WWII so far this term and we cannot wait to delve deeper in our historical enquiry as the term develops.

Take a look at our photos to see what we got up to…
