Welcome to Year 1
The Year 1 team would like to welcome our new Year 1 children to Cedar and Yew class. We are all very excited about the new school year and are looking forward to get to know the children over the next few weeks.
Autumn 1 term is always a lovely time of the year, where we are still enjoying the sunshine and getting to know the children in a relaxed way. Our timetable closely reflects how the children were learning in Year R and we feel that this supports their transition into Year 1 as best as possible. Our busy time allows the children to learn through their play, much like how they did in Year R and we work with children in small groups, enabling us to really get to know them and where they are in there learning journey.
This term the topic is Being Me in my World. We learn about our bodies and the senses in science and in history, personal timelines and living history. We learn about how to stay safe online using the SMART rules in computing. In R.E we are learning about the meaning of belonging and what it means to Christians.
Our focus stories in English are The Three Little Pigs, The Tiger Who Came to Tea and Sudden Hill. We also work hard on handwriting and introduce cursive. In maths we are recapping some of the learning from Year R to assess where the children are. Then we are full steam ahead with teen numbers, counting in 10's, money, counting forwards and backwards to 100 and one more and one less of any number to 100.
