Spring 2
This Spring 2 term has been full of exciting learning across the curriculum! In Geography, we explored weather and maps, even creating our own map of the school which we used to investigate temperature changes. In English, we enjoyed studying Journey, inspiring us to write our own imaginative portal stories as well as creative weather poems. Our Art lessons introduced us to Clarice Cliff, and we designed our own colourful plates inspired by her work. In Maths, we consolidated our understanding of fractions. We also practised multiplying and dividing using our 10, 2 and 5x tables. We also kept active in PE, learning a fun dance routine and developing our cricket skills. It has been a fantastic and busy term!
This half term in Year 2 has been packed with excitement and creativity as we explored the significance of the Titanic. The children fully immersed themselves in our topic, showing fantastic enthusiasm and curiosity. Inspired by our class book, we wrote thoughtful diary entries imagining we were Samson aboard the Titanic, bringing history to life through our writing. We also created impressive non-chronological reports, showcasing our growing confidence in organising facts and information.
In Maths, we have worked incredibly hard to tell the time to quarter past and quarter to the hour, as well as in 5-minute intervals — a skill we are very proud of mastering! Our Art lessons saw us sketching and painting wonderful pictures of the Titanic in the style of Ken Marshall, producing some truly stunning artwork.
In Science, we have been learning about animals and their needs, exploring what living things require to survive and thrive. In Design and Technology, we made delicious wraps, carefully selecting ingredients from different food groups to ensure our meals were balanced and healthy.
A real highlight of the half term was our school trip to the Titanic Museum in Southampton, where the children deepened their understanding and enjoyed seeing history brought to life.
We are so proud of all the hard work Year 2 have shown this half term and look forward to another fun-filled and successful Spring 2!
Autumn 2
This half term has been super fun in Year 2 as we explored our exciting topic all about Paddington Bear and his adventures in London! We learnt lots about London and the UK and enjoyed comparing them to Peru. In geography, we used UK maps and world maps and learnt about the different continents and oceans. In English, we wrote our own Paddington adventure stories and letters to Aunt Lucy, and we finished the term by writing beautiful winter poems. We also made marmalade sandwiches and then wrote instructions for them. We celebrated all of our Paddington learning with an amazing Paddington show. In maths, we learnt about sharing and grouping and began learning about fractions, focusing on halves and quarters. In music, we learnt how to play hand bells, and in science, we explored what living things are and how we can tell that plants are alive. What a brilliant half term of learning!
Welcome to Sycamore and Willow Class (Year 2) 2025-2026
We welcome Year 2 children to Sycamore and Willow Class. We have had a busy start to the term, getting stuck into our new topic 'The Great Fire of London'. We're certainly impressed with the children's enthusiasm for the topic as well as the number of facts they are eager to share; what a great start!
To help children settle we have spoken a lot about our 'Zones of Regulation' and how we may be feeling, particularly in the morning when first arriving as well as after lunch breaks. Please familiarise yourselves with these zones so that discussions about feelings can continue to be supported at home.
Year 2 will have PE on a Monday (Indoor) and Wednesday (Outdoor) this year. The children will need to wear their PE kit into school to be worn for the duration of the day.
Please feel free to drop us an email or call, via the office, if you have any queries or concerns. We are always willing to help where we can.
Our current Year 2 staff team.

Willow: Miss Skillett
