  • Come to our Christmas Fair 2nd December

Wed 30 Nov 2016 Miss Rogers
Come and support our school by coming to our annual Christmas Fair
  • EYFS and KS1 Productions

Tue 29 Nov 2016 Miss Rogers

I am hearing lots of lovely Christmas songs as I'm working in my office, which is a real pleasure to hear. I hope you have all received your tickets for the EYFS and KS1 productions as you are certainly in for a treat. The children have worked incredibly hard to learn their lines and songs. It is great that our whole school are reminded about the true meaning of Christmas as I feel it is vitally important.

Thank you to all of our parents who have kitted their children out with lovely costumes. We do appreciate it.

I will be posting photos of each performance shortly.

  • Avon Tyrrell Day 4

Thu 17 Nov 2016 Miss Hunt

WOW! What a jam-packed final day of activities we have all had! The children have been absolutely brilliant this week in settling down for bed and ensuring that they are getting plenty of rest to prepare them for the following day, and last night was no exception.  I think we must have worn them out! I will take this opportunity to also say how brilliantly behaved they’ve all been throughout the week. On behalf of all the adults that have stayed this week, visited for the day and got covered in mud, the children have been a delight and have showed us what a fantastic group of children they really are.

Today, Year 6 have enjoyed activities such as navigation, orienteering and high ropes. To round the day off nicely, they all worked as a team to create several giant catapults to aim at targets across the field. This was a roaring success and although the weather turned against us a little, the children all had a fabulous time. The wonderful Miss Lyddon also joined us for the day and thoroughly enjoyed watching the children complete all of their activities.

The party outfits are out tonight as we prepare for our disco this evening...

I hope you're looking forward to hearing all about their awesome week tomorrow.

  • Year 3 Victorian Day

Thu 17 Nov 2016 Miss Wright

On Tuesday, Year 3 took part in a Victorian dress up day. The children got a sense of what it was like to be at school in the 1800s and everybody who took part really got into role. Some of the activities/ lessons included: English grammar, handwriting, arithmetic, technical drawing, poetry recital, needlework and drill.

Take a look at some of our photos to see what we got up to.

  • Avon Tyrrell Day 3

Wed 16 Nov 2016 Miss Hunt

We have all had another brilliant day here at Avon Tyrrell. Again, the children slept well through the night and enjoyed a delicious continental style breakfast this morning – pain au chocolate, croissants, ham, cheese and much more! Miss Rogers also joined us for the day which was great and the children loved showing her just how brave they all are! The children showed real perseverance and determination as many were faced with activities such as high ropes, canoeing and abseiling.

“When I was climbing up the ladder I was really shaking but as I got to the top I managed to find the confidence to do the ‘leap of faith’. I was so proud of myself when I came down.’ Lizzy W.

“I was really frightened and scared that I might fall off the high rope but when I completed it I felt a sense of achievement. The instructor was really supportive and everyone cheered me on.” Demi Hall.

“Before I went up the abseiling tower I felt anxious about how high it was! I managed to get the hang of the best way to come down and got to the bottom safely. I really enjoyed it!” Ben H.

“I really enjoyed having a go at navigating our way across Avon Tyrrell. Even when we got a little lost, we all worked as a team to find our way back!” Lily-Anne

This evening, the other half of the group enjoyed the campfire experience whilst the other children had the chance to play ‘The Chocolate Game.’ Our last full day of activities with a disco in the evening to finish the day off nicely.

  • Avon Tyrrell Day 2

Tue 15 Nov 2016 Mrs Osborne

Miss Brookes, Mr Wood and I have been so impressed with the children's behaviour, team work and resilience so far. We were especially pleased with how well they all slept last night - they went to bed straight away and didn't wake us up once!

After a good night's sleep, the day started with a delicious cooked breakfast. Following this, the children took part in their second day of activities. Below are some quotes from a few of them about what they have enjoyed most (as you can see, the rock climbing was very popular!) ...

"I've enjoyed everything so far!" Toby.

"I loved the climbing wall because I managed to get to the top." Daniel.

"I liked the climbing wall because I flew up it!" Olivia.

"I've liked everything and the instructors are really kind." Elizabeth.

"I'm proud of myself because I reached where I wanted to be on the rock climbing tower." Mia.

This evening, some of the children enjoyed a campfire whilst the other children played 'The Chocolate Game.' Everyone is looking forward to yet another jam-packed and fun-filled day tomorrow.
