  • Reading over the Summer - please keep it up everyone. The rewards are worth it!!

Wed 22 Jul 2015 Miss Rogers

Please do not forget our Great Binfields Summer Reading Challenge 2015. If you have mislaid your  form with the madness of the last day of term etc, you can print one off on the Letters page of this website. The prizes are great if I do say so myself and we all know it is important to keep your reading skills top notch or otherwise we get really rusty!!!

You can also become a record breaker this summer by completing the Hampshire Library Challenge! The Summer Reading Challenge 2015, produced by the Reading Agency, takes place across all libraries in Hampshire on the 11 July through to 13 September.

This year, it’s all about Guinness World Records, and in Hampshire they want record breaking results, encouraging as many children as possible to pick up their books, read them and get involved. Hampshire Libraries also have a range of exciting events lined up, for 4-11 year olds, including crafts, workshops, and in some libraries there is even the chance to take part in an official Guinness World Records title attempt!

Not only is this an opportunity to make reading fun and interactive, it also helps prevent the summer reading slump, where children’s reading skills can take a dip when they’re not at school. Last year a quarter of 4-11 year olds in Hampshire took part, and nationally the Summer Reading Challenge helps get 3 quarters of a million children into libraries , and reading for pleasure, every summer. Unfortunately not many children took part from our school last year. We actually came last which made me feel sad! Let's ensure that this doesn't happen again everyone!!

To take part in the Challenge, each child will be able to choose and borrow any library books that they want to read, and can collect a poster and stickers (some smelly) along the way. There’s even a medal at the end, when they’ve read at least 6 library books. To sign up, it’s easy, just go into your local library, and of course, it’s all completely free!

    Happy reading everyone!

  • Binfields Got Talent

Tue 21 Jul 2015 Miss Rogers
Wow what a treat we had yesterday afternoon when 11 finalists showcased their acts. Jonathan, Darcy, Mrs Cullinane (our Chair of Govs) and I enjoyed being the judges and we hadn't laughed so much in a long time. . The range of talent was really, really good, bringing happy tears to our eyes on some occasions. Well done to everyone who entered the competition and we shall be announcing the winners this afternoon during our Year 6 leavers' assembly.
  • What A Wonderful Afternoon Tea!

Fri 17 Jul 2015 Miss Rogers

Today our Year 5/6 children made, prepared and served a glorious Afternoon Tea for their families in order to raise some funds for our new Outdoor Grounds Project. They all did a tremendous job and so many parents commented on how proud they were of the children. Not only did the children, make, create, serve and pack away but we also had photographers capturing the event, designers who created the menus, raffle ticket sellers who impressed the public with their persuasive skills and we had musicians who wowed everyone with their superb playing!

All in all, it was a perfect afternoon and a memory maker for all of us. Well done children, you have done us proud yet again!

  • Key Stage 1 travel back in time!

Thu 16 Jul 2015 Mrs Barnhouse
Key Stage 1 children travelled back in time to the medieval era today and wow did they have a great day! (Be sure to ask your children what they have learnt today!) Year 2 researched what people ate in medieval times before creating a menu, trying to persuade others to eat some unusual food! Year 1 were busy creating shields, making bread and learning medieval dances. In the afternoon Years 1 and 2 had a rotation of activities, including jousting, medieval games and shooting handmade bow and arrows! It was great to see the children dressed up ready for the occasion, getting involved in every aspect of the day. I know the adults certainly enjoyed the day too! Have a look at some of the photos to see what we got up to.
  • We are being inspected!!

Wed 15 Jul 2015 Miss Rogers

Just to let you all know that you will be receiving an email from Mrs Worgan this afternoon outlining that we are having an Ofsted inspection tomorrow 16th and Friday 17th July. Please read this email as it has some important information for you to respond to.

    Many thanks,

    Miss Rogers

  • Thank You Cream Tea

Tue 14 Jul 2015 Miss Rogers

Our School Councillors enjoyed serving our super volunteers their Cream Tea this afternoon as a special thank you for giving up their free time to come and help us in school. We are very grateful for the work our volunteers do. They assist with guided reading, cooking, hearing individual readers, leading assemblies, assist with art and DT projects as well as ferry our children to various events and sporting competitions/tournaments.

A good time was had by all and our children really enjoyed setting up the tea room as well as serving our visitors. Our School Council did a grand job of presenting their 2014-2015 achievements too.

  • Years 3 and 4 Roman Day

Wed 08 Jul 2015 Miss Rendall

Years 3 and 4 enjoyed their Roman Day. Look at our fantastic costumes! In the morning we made laurel leaf crowns to wear to the grand banquet in the afternoon. The 'slaves' prepared the food and entertainers practised their acts ready for the feast.

We 'met' Boudicca and thought about the reasons for going into battle against the Romans. We then worked up an appetite by practising our battle formation... the tortoise with our Roman shields!
