  • Judo Sessions for our Year 1 and 2 Pupils

Sat 27 Feb 2016 Miss Rogers

Today children in Year 1 and 2 had a Judo taster session with our Early Morning Judo Club Instructor, Paul. We would like more children to get involved with the sport and hope that some children would like to take up the club which is held on Friday mornings before school starts.

Paul, the instructor is also leading some curriculum sessions for us in the future as part of the Wow Sports programme led by Miss Grainger. We aim to have a full and exciting programme of sports for our children to experience.

The children loved the sessions and Paul was impressed with some of children's agility and perseverance - well done you guys.

  • Year 2 take a trip to Tesco

Fri 26 Feb 2016 Mrs Barnhouse

Year 2 enjoyed their recent trip to Tesco on Wednesday. This was part of their 'Food to Fuel' programme linked to the upcoming Olympics. Children found out a little bit of information about the Olympics and number of countries that participate. Did you know that 206 countries are expected to be there? This was a surprise to us!

The first task was to find foods from around the world, checking the labelling carefully to find this information. We were then given the task of finding out about what is in our food and what foods athletes might eat in order to keep them fit and help them train. We looked for nutritional information on the packaging this time, investigating our food groups we have previously learnt about.

Finally, we were invited into the training room where we had to design our own healthy drinks. We were given a variety of fruit and herbs to add to still or sparkling water. These included lemon, lime and mint. After making our drinks we then tasted and rated them according to strength and whether or not we liked them...we agreed that some concoctions were tastier than others! We then thought carefully about the food groups we need to keep us healthy and used this information to make a food face! Have a look at the pictures below to see what you think!

  • Balfour Beatty Safety Briefing for our Children

Mon 22 Feb 2016 Miss Rogers

This morning all of our children and staff received a safety briefing from the contractors Education Officer, Fiona Gush.  It was a very effective briefing which was split into 2 different sessions for our 2 different key stages.

The children learned about how the contractors keep safe whilst being on site and the children were told that they are not to go on site due to the possible dangers. It was explained that the site boundary walls may have peepholes for the children to look through but under no circumstances were they to enter the site. we do not want any terrible accidents to happen. The children were also briefed to get their parents and carers to phone the number displayed on the entrances of the site or the local police if they see anybody on site without a Balfour Beattie Jacket on.

I am grateful for this session as we of course take Health and Safety seriously here at GBP and the contractor is renowned for its safe practices which is brilliant.

Further education sessions for each year groups will take place during the next year whilst the contractors are on site. The children will get a good learning experience from this next exciting phase.

  • Mothering Sunday Sale Event

Mon 22 Feb 2016 Miss Rogers

Next week we are holding our annual Mothering Sunday Sales event where all of our children are asked to bring in a suitable item from home to donate for the sale along with a gift bag (of any size). The children then get the chance to bring in £1 next week, on Wednesday 2nd March so they can purchase a new item to wrap up for their Mothers, Nans or Carers.

We do require lots of hands on decks - so if you are able to help us to help the children to wrap their gifts, that would be great.

It was a huge success last year and we look forward to doing the same this year. We also did a Sweet Shop for Fathers' Day in June which we will be running again also this year. Watch this space!

  • Traffic!

Fri 19 Feb 2016 Mrs Worgan
    Dear Parents
As you are all aware, the building contractors Balfour Beatty started work on our new car park before half term.  Work is progressing well and there has been quite a lot of progress over this week.
There are several vehicles which belong to the contractors on site and they are parking them by the entrance to their site on Pyotts Copse.  This is obviously restricting the flow of traffic for the residents there and we would ask that you do not use Pyotts Copse or Hopton Garth when bringing or collecting your children from school.  The building works are going to bring a high level of disruption to our neighbours and in an effort to minimise this we have made arrangements for parents to park at agreed times in the car park nearest the petrol station at the Chineham Shopping Centre, and also in the outdoor tennis court at the Hampshire Court Hotel. Many parents have already collected parking permits for this purpose.
We would be very grateful for your cooperation during the period of the extension works and would ask you to consider the local residents when you travel to school.

  • Treehouse Theatre

Tue 09 Feb 2016 Miss Collins
Today, the Year 5 and 6 children performed a 'play in a day' with the Treehouse Theatre Group. Through drama, they learnt about the Tudor Dynasty and major events which took place in the Tudor era. They loved dressing up in Tudor costumes, learning Tudor songs and taking on different roles in the play. They especially enjoyed seeing people's heads being chopped off! Do not be alarmed; the axes were just made of foam! We hope you enjoy looking at some of the photos from the day...
  • Outdoor Writing Week

Tue 09 Feb 2016 Miss Collins

The children have been enjoying taking part lots of 'outdoor' themed writing opportunities this week. Each year group has linked their learning to a particular book:

Year R - Winnie the Pooh

Year 1 - The Stick Man

Year 2 - Where the Wild Things Are

    Year 3 and 4 - The Minpins

    Year 5 and 6 - Flashlight

We are all looking forward to having a look at their finished pieces of writing on Friday in Merit Assembly. Take a look at the photos of the Year 5 and 6 children using the outdoor area for inspiration...
