  • A favourable result for our KS1 Footballers

Mon 16 Mar 2015 Miss Rogers

It was great to hear how well our KS1 footballers did on Friday. Mrs Barnhouse took a Year 2 team to play against other Basingstoke schools and they did very well. The team drew the first game and then went on to win the next three games they played. A huge well done to you all!!

As you can imagine Mrs Barnhouse and all of us are immensely proud of you all.

  • EYFS Mothers' Day Concert

Sun 15 Mar 2015 Miss Rogers

Our youngest children made their mummies, headteacher, teachers and LSAs very proud on Friday. Over the past week or so, they have been working hard to learn Mothers' Day songs and poems as well as creating created some super portraits of their mummies along with some fantastic writing. They certainly made us smile. Thank you children for making our day...and I am sure that your mummies really enjoyed opening up their special letter today which you posted at the Post Office on Friday morning.

  • Football in KS1

Fri 13 Mar 2015 Mrs Barnhouse

On Friday afternoon 8 children were selected from Year 2 to join a friendly football session at the Power League Pitches to play 6-aside football. Schools from across North Hampshire participated in the afternoon activities where each school played 4 games. I have to say how proud I was of the children; not only did they play well but they were respectful and supportive to both children on their own team and those of other teams. It was great to see the confidence develop in players as the afternoon went on. Well done to Jaden who was named player of the match. Another well done goes to Kaiden who scored a significant number of goals, scoring 6-0 in one game alone!

As this was the first time the team had played together they did a fantastic job, drawing one game and winning another three. A fantastic team effort!

  • Jungle Jonathan's Roadshow

Thu 12 Mar 2015 Mrs Hill

Today Year 5/6 had several amazing visitors to school...ranging from a crested gecko to a Taiwanese beauty snake! An animal enthusiast ,called Jungle Jonathan, came into school with a range of animals that you would expect to find in the rainforest. The children had an amazing time learning about how they adapt to their habitat, and they even got to hold some of them too. Take a look at the link below to find out more about the amazing animals he has in his collection.

  • Our Secret Shop Success

Thu 12 Mar 2015 Miss Rogers

Thank you to all of you who brought in items for our Mothering Sunday Sale. The quality of produce was really good. The children who brought in a £1 to spend enjoyed choosing their gift and was very appreciative of our willing volunteers who came in to help wrap.  I am sure many mums, step mums and nans will be very happy on Sunday when they open up their presents.

I would like to thank our super Office Team for running this event and I would also like to thank our willing volunteers who stayed to help wrap...next year we will  be canvassing more support as the wrapping part did take more time than we first anticipated.

Rest assured we will be also doing something special for our dads, stepdads and granddads when it is Father's Day in June.

  • Netball qualifying competition

Wed 11 Mar 2015 Miss Grainger

    Great Binfields once again entered the Basingstoke schools netball qualifying competition. Jessie and Ethan of the team have done a write up of the event below;

On Tuesday, Miss Grainger took a group of nine year 5 and 6 children to a netball competition at the Russell Howard centre. Great Binfields competed against seven other schools for a chance to compete in the final.

The first two matches were tough, resulting in a loss and a draw, but, with a lot of teamwork, they ended up winning the next two and drawing the final one! When all the matches had been played, they waited nervously to hear the results. As they had got 11 points, Great Binfields qualified to the finals with 4th place! Next week they will compete; we hope they do well!

This is a great accomplishment as last year GBPS failed to qualify. A big well done to the whole team and a massive thank you to  Mrs Howard for supporting.

  • Rugby at Great Binfields

Tue 10 Mar 2015 Miss Grainger

Last Wednesday three other schools travelled to Great Binfields as part of the rugby league matches. South View, Marnell, Winklebury and Great Binfields all played each other in six gripping matches, all hoping for a win. We started a bit slow, loosing our first match, but soon warmed up after we were supported by our very own cheerleaders in the shape of drama club, teachers and parents. Thanks to all that made it. Below are our results and we're really looking forward to our next lot of matches in two weeks time.

A massive thankyou to Mr Wood, who along with myself, has been training the children twice a week in preparation.

South View    3 - 2      Great Binfields (lost)

    Marnell          2 - 2      Great Binfields (drew)

    Winklebury    3 - 1      Great Binfields (won)

  • Cross Country Relay

Tue 10 Mar 2015 Miss Grainger

The week before half term, Miss Brooks and I took 4 teams to the cross country relay event for schools in Basingstoke. This was a first for Great Binfields and the children were really excited. Each member of the team, consisting of four, had to run a certain distance in turn (500 meters for year 3/4 and 600 metres for year 5/6) and work as a team in order to complete this relay event against 16 other schools. Every child worked exceptionally hard and represented Great Binfields excellently, not only running their distance but cheering for their team mates too.

The year 3/4 girls ran first and, after a sprint finish from Sarah, finished 5th.

Next was the turn of the year 3/4 boys, running well and finishing in 6th.

Year 5/6 boys was a tough group but Great Binfields pushed out and came 8th.

The year 5/6 girls ran brilliantly as a team and finished in 3rd place to receive a bronze medal. A special mention to Bethanie, who dug deep and sprinted the last 100 meters to overtake the runner in front ON THE FINISH LINE!! Well done to all the children who took part and a big thankyou to Miss Brooks and the parents who supported.

  • Stranger Danger and Road Safety Talk

Mon 09 Mar 2015 Miss Rogers
Just to let you know that this morning one of our Governors, who is also a police officer, led an assembly talking to our children about Stranger Danger and Road Safety. This was obviously dealt with sensitively so as not to worry the children unnecessarily, but to give them an awareness of what could happen and what they should do in certain circumstances. Perhaps you could follow this up at home by having a discussion about keeping safe generally.
