  • Year 5 and 6 Viking Day

Mon 06 Jul 2015 Miss Collins

Today the Year 5 and 6 children, teachers and LSAs were transformed into Vicious Vikings! They enjoyed a fun filled morning of: jewellery making, longboat and weapon construction and cookery.

This was followed by a huge battle on the field in the afternoon (girls against boys.) Much to the boys' disappointment, the girls' army outnumbered theirs and as a result, the girls were victorious!

After a gruelling battle, the children then ventured into the woods where their stew had been cooking all day. They enjoyed sampling the stew and listening to a Viking story before home time. A great day was had by all! A big thank you to Mr Wood and his wife Helen for organising the outdoor cooking equipment and fire. A huge thank you to Mrs Chestnutt too for coming in to help with the cooking! Take a look at some of the photos!

  • Friends of GBP Summer BBQ

Sat 04 Jul 2015 Miss Rogers

I would like to take this opportunity in thanking everyone for their fantastic support for this year's Summer BBQ Event. It was a great opportunity for our existing school families to get together with our new families who start in September on a social basis. It was also great from my point of view to get the chance to thank people for their continued support, to informally celebrate the success of children and to review the year generally. A highlight of course, was seeing the children milling around and playing so nicely with one another.  The Sumo suits were definitely a hit with the children!!

All of this couldn't have happened of course without the support of our wonderful group of volunteers, The Friends of Great Binfields. We are truly grateful to the committee members who as usual put in copious amounts of their free time to prepare for, organise, purchase, set up, run the event and then pack away. You are simply all fabulous!!! I would also like to thank our teachers and members of our support team who have put in yet another late night this week to support our school. You really do show your dedication.

I am pleased to report that we have made a tidy profit. The exact amount will be shared in our next newsletter due out early next week.

    Thanks again to everyone involved.

  • Love of People Who Help Us Day

Sat 04 Jul 2015 Miss Rogers

As part of our Moral, Social, Spiritual and Cultural  (MSSC) curriculum we have a special day every half term where the whole school join together to gain greater awareness of different issues and aspects of life. Yesterday our children had lots of time to learn, think and discuss about how different people really do assist us in our lives. Our youngest children learned about how their families and our local school community guide them in their lives. Our Year 3/4 children focussed on how people within our communities support one another. For example, the need for farmers, dentists, councillors, MPs, doctors, nurses, midwives, fire-fighters, paramedics, teachers, vicars, shop keepers, etc in our society  and the fact that we are so interdependent. Our eldest children thought about international charities who help people in a crisis or disaster.

This learning was shared in a whole school assembly at the end of the day and we were all amazed at the incredible insights and learning the children encountered.  They definitely got a huge amount from the day. We are going to create a display for our front entrance using the children's learning material and Miss Lyddon will also add some of the children's fantastic learning in our Love of Journal which is also kept in our front entrance.

  • Aladdin Trouble!

Fri 03 Jul 2015 Miss Collins
The Key Stage Two children should all be very proud of themselves after putting on a brilliant performance of 'Aladdin Trouble' on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. All of their hard work and dedication during rehearsals definitely paid off as they wowed the audience with their fantastic dancing, singing and acting. A special thank you to Mr Maxwell and Josh for giving up their time on the two evenings to film the show! Take a look at a few of the photos...
