Guide Dogs For The Blind Visit

Today we had a super visit from 2 representatives from The Guide Dogs For The Blind charity to tell us how the wonderful dogs are trained and how severely sight impaired use the qualified dogs so they can access every day life effectively. They bought along Guss a working black Labrador dog who works for Brian, one of the visitors. this is his 3rd Guide Dog and he always keeps the dogs when they retire. at one point his family had 3. Cooper is a Golden Retriever pup who is currently being trained by Ellen who volunteers for the charity. She will be with Ellen for 11 months and had him since he was 7 weeks old. Then he will go to the training centre where he will be trained to respond to the many commands. It really did make our children think about what goes on behind the scenes before a guide dog is fully trained. They also found it totally fascinating.

Thank you Brian and Ellen for making your way around to all of our classes to give your talk and answer the children's many questions. It was a huge success and has certainly made our children more aware.
