At Great Binfields Primary School we are passionate about teaching spelling lessons that appeal and engage all learners through fun activities such as word webs, rainbow writing, chalk words on the playground and dictionary challenges. Children develop their knowledge about the relationship between sounds and letters and how the meaning of root words can be altered with suffixes and prefixes. Etymology of words is also discussed so the children are aware of where certain words originate from. All children in KS2 take part in daily spelling sessions which build upon the phonics knowledge they have learned in EYFS and KS1. The children take part in weekly home learning tasks which prepare them for their weekly test of the particular word family or list they have been using that week.
