Year 5 and 6 Viking and Saxon Day
Year 5 and 6 have had another fun packed day as part of their Viking and Saxon topic. The children outdid themselves with their costumes for the day and really looked the part during our Viking and Saxon battle. We started the day by generating our Viking names and writing them in runes - i'm sure the children will be excited to share which clans they belong to. They then explored how skilled the Anglo Saxon's were at making jewellery, in particular brooches. The children designed and made their own brooches ready to wear for the big battle in the afternoon.
The children also had the opportunity to explore the revolutionary longboat and used their observational skills to sketch a longboat, focusing on perspective, tone and form. Year 5 and 6 also helped Mr Wood make a yummy stew in the forest, to ensure they were full of energy for the battle ahead. Fully charged after our food, the children's battle cries could be heard across the playground as we marched to the field for the epic battle between Beech Clan, Chestnut Clan and Maple Clan. Mrs Osborne, Miss James and Miss Hunt were early casualties.
A fantastic day all around. Have a look at the pictures for a snapshot of the day!
