Equality and Rights Advocates - EARA

EQUALITY AND RIGHTS ADVOCATES- EARA

Hampshire Equality and Rights Advocates (EARA) are a groups of students from Hampshire schools who work collaboratively to promote equality and children's rights in their schools based on the nine protected characteristics of the Equality Act and UNCRC. Great Binfields is happy to have joined the group this academic year.  We aim to present our ideas to students, teachers, governors and parents in the school community. We meet regularly and will be attending network meetings once a term with other schools in the coming year.

Great Binfields EARA

Our Great Binfields Group is made up of Year 4 and Year 5 children who have presented themselves to promote equality and improve the understanding of a child’s right to the other children and adults at Great Binfields. Mrs Franklin works with the children and supports them to plan and deliver their messages.

Great Binfields EARA Mission Statement

We are here to protect children's rights.

We are here to listen to all children’s voices.

We are here to spread equality in and around Great Binfields.

We are here to inform all people of the value of children's rights.

Spring 2025 EARA meeting

Today, Mrs Franklin and Mrs Holdsworth took our Equality and Rights Advocates to the spring EARA group meeting. Hampshire Equality and Rights Advocates (EARA) are a group of students from Hampshire schools who work collaboratively to promote equality and children's rights in their schools based on the nine protected characteristics of the Equality Act and UNCRC.

In today's session, the children were considering the question 'Are all stones the same?' They were then all invited to take a stone and describe them. Noticing how each stone was completely unique, the children were then able to draw parallels with the diversity across society. After that, we focussed on the word 'kindness' as it has been voted Children's Word of the Year. Our EARA group thought about how they could show kindness to others.

Mrs Franklin and Mrs Holdsworth were really impressed by how well the children participated and that they displayed the school values of Respect, Creativity and Cooperation.

Autumn 2024 EARA meeting

Yesterday, Mrs Franklin took our brand new Equality and Rights Advocates to their first EARA group meeting. Hampshire Equality and Rights Advocates (EARA) are a group of students from Hampshire schools who work collaboratively to promote equality and children's rights in their schools based on the nine protected characteristics of the Equality Act and UNCRC.

Yesterday's session was an opportunity for our advocates to learn a little more about what their roles will entail and how they can promote equality and improve the understanding of a child’s right to the other children and adults at Great Binfields. This term, their specific focus is gender equality.

Mrs Franklin was really impressed by the ideas our group shared and how well they all displayed GBP values.

They were also lucky enough to be the first group of children to take a ride in the new school minibus! Thank you Mr Ellis!
