Grandparent's Day in Beech Class

Beech Class had an extremely exciting afternoon on Thursday when their grandparents came to visit. This was linked to our Toy topic where we have been learning about old and new toys and games. Beech Class were able to invite their grandparents to school for the afternoon so they could teach them about games they played when they were younger. Children learnt some of the rules to chess, had great fun playing tiddlywinks and had to have real concentration and focus when playing jacks. There were lots of smiles and laughter throughout the afternoon and even though not all grandparents could make it children still joined in with others. One of the favourite toys was blow football; the children loved it so much they wanted to carry on playing even after the grandparents had left! It was also interesting to see one grandparent bring in her memories from own childhood, including a school reading book, cats cradle and some pictures of when she was a child. This was a great talking point and something we could think about for future events so experiences and memories can be shared.

Have a read of some of the comments below to find out what the grandparents thought. It was great to have this feedback so we know what we can do for next time:

Very pleasant and very different to when my nan was at school. When is the next!!

I really enjoyed this afternoon. It was lovely spending time with [my grandson] in his school environment.

We had great fun. It would be fun to play outdoor games one afternoon, perhaps in the summer?

It...was very good fun. It helped the children mix with adults and share their childhood experiences. Thank you.
