Learning Together, Achieving Forever

Rock 2 the Beat

On Thursday, our Year 4 and Year 5 children were treated to quite the show! Members of the 'Rock 2 the Beat' project came into school to not only share this exciting new opportunity but to also play some live music for us. The children were greeted by the song 'Superstition' being played on the electric guitar, the bass and of course the drums. The children were bobbing along and were completely fascinated by what they saw. The adults felt very inspired after also (it made us realise how much we miss seeing live music!). All of the children were so respectful and there was certainly a 'buzz' in the room - you could feel the enthusiasm and amazement.

Families have been emailed information about this project but here is a snapshot of information:

"A team of specialist tutors from Hampshire Music Service visited school and performed to the children today to talk about an exciting new provision called “Rock2theBeat”. We are hoping to launch this provision at Great Binfields Primary School from September with sessions during the school day.

"Rock 2 the Beat"

Our aim is to deliver expert tuition for children in contemporary Rock and Pop music, focusing on both individual skills and playing within an ensemble. The instruments taught as part of the project are electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, drums and voice.

Teaching is via a mix of small group skills-based lessons and whole band sessions. Alongside this, a comprehensive set of resources are available to support learning outside of the sessions, which include song music, instructional videos, technical exercises and backing tracks to practise along to.

The programme is delivered by two experienced HMS teachers who have extensive experience not only in instrumental tuition but also in performance.

Rock 2 the Beat is delivered on a term-by-term basis with a performance at the end of each one, giving the pupils the chance to showcase everything they have learnt to their peers, friends and family."
