Year 5 STEM Science trip
Today some of the Year 5 pupils were lucky enough to attend the Basingstoke Primary Schools STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Fair at QMC. The children took part in a range of interactive activities ran by different businesses. The activities/ companies included:
AWE - problem solving with a focus on how light travels
Institute of Engineering and Technology - electricity and making circuits
Jackson Rowe - designing their dream house thinking about choice of materials
QMC Primary School Science Centre - making and launching rockets
Chartered Institute for IT - creating instructions to think about coding
Blatchford - focusing on putting together and taking apart prosthetic limbs
Hampshire and IOW Air Ambulance Service
ThermoFisher - microbiology and DNA
FAAC - sensor challenge
The aim was to educate the children about STEM industries and career options, as well as challenge perceptions and job role stereotypes. They had a great day and Mrs Franklin was very impressed by how well they took part and displayed the GBP school values.
