  • Year 2 fire service visit

    Mon 11 Nov 2019
Year 2 were visited by the fire service today. As part of our topic we are learning about how to stay safe if there is a fire. We learnt some catchy rhymes to remind us and hopefully the children can share them with their families to help them as well. We all found the songs and games really fun and we now know the importance of keeping safe around fire. Remember: 'Get out, stay out, call 999!'
  • Great Binfields shows their respect!

Mon 11 Nov 2019 Miss Lyddon

On the 11th day, of the 11th month at 11 o'clock, the staff and children at Great Binfields showed their respect for Remembrance day by coming together for a small service in the courtyard and completing a minutes silence at our new flag pole.

    We will remember!

  • Year 2 Great Fire of London Tree house theatre visit

    Fri 08 Nov 2019

Today year 2 were visited by Ben from Treehouse Theatre. We went back in time and learnt all about the Great Fire of London. To begin the session we sat round and Ben re-enacted the story. The children were very excited by this and it was interesting to hear the various things that happened when the fire broke out. We then took part in a workshop where we had to pretend to be someone who was around during the Great Fire of London. The children dressed as their characters and then chose jobs that they would have done. They then re-enacted each part of the story. They had to think carefully about what items they might take with them and how they would feel about all those that they have left behind. They then acted out trying to put out the fire, and realised what a tricky job this would have been in 1666. To end the workshop they had to work as a team to use the items they had to pay the ferry to take them across to the other side. Overall the session was a great success and the children gained a great deal of knowledge from it.

  • Veterans meet and greet!

Thu 07 Nov 2019 Miss Hunt

A number of children from Year 6 had the incredible opportunity to meet over a dozen veterans from across Hampshire today, hosted at our local Tesco, Chineham. The children were absolutely fascinated by their personal anecdotes and exuding passion for their previous careers in the army. They also learnt lots about the potential opportunities they could experience in such a career, including the ability to travel across the world. A knowledgeable representative from Middle Wallop Air Museum also brought a range of artefacts for the children to explore and explained their unique importance for particular roles in the army. One such example was a vital pair of gloves, which would have been worn by pilots, which included an individual slot for your forefinger as well as your thumb!

After this, the children were then able to share evidence of a range of their learning from our coverage of World War Two last half term and spoke passionately about how they had empathised with a variety of roles from the time.  The veterans were blown away by their creativity, presentation and ability to verbalise their understanding of the subject.

Once we were back at school, the children were able to share their learning and experiences with those who did not attend through a variety of pictures, videos and personal conversations with the veterans.

It was an absolute privilege to meet these gentlemen today and the children were able to make real connections between their learning and individual stories! All children represented our school so beautifully too. Have a little look at our pictures to see what we got up to…

  • KS2 Hockey

    Tue 05 Nov 2019
The children enjoyed their first hockey session today with Mr Watton. We learnt lots of the basics and quickly started dribbling and passing the ball. We made great progress and will soon be starting to play matches!
