  • Robin and The Sherwood Hoodies KS2 Production

Fri 21 Jul 2017 Ms Rogers

We were all in for a treat this week when our KS2 children all clubbed together to put on a tremendous production. The acting was superb - you got into the roles, so so well and we all especially the corny jokes which were knitted in throughout the evening. The dances really added a super touch to the whole play and the choir were simply wonderful. You really did belt the words - you all sounded so professional.

We are so proud of you all and it was a fitting end to a wonderful year at GBP.

Thanks for coming to watch everyone and I hope you like the photographs below.

  • Year One Outdoor Week

Mon 17 Jul 2017 Miss Hanafin & Miss Finnimore

Last week, the year ones were lucky enough to have the scouts come into school to join us for our outdoor week. All of the children got the chance to do outdoor cooking (sausages and marshmallows!), tracking around Chineham and also shelter building. When the scouts weren't in, we also did Minibeast hunting and riddle writing, leaf threading, sketching our woodland and much more. It was really great to see the children trying something new, taking risks and working together as a team. Once again, we are really grateful to the scouts for giving up their time to work with us.

Have a look at the pictures to see what we got up to!

  • Friends of Great Binfields Annual Summer BBQ Event

Sat 15 Jul 2017 Ms Rogers

What a marvellous evening it was! The new courtyard was a fitting backdrop for an evening alfresco! The sun was shining and it was marvellous seeing so many of you enjoying the events on offer. It was also great for the children to meet Jessie, the Cowgirl too!

Thank you to our wonderful committee who put this super event together. It was enjoyed by all. Thanks also to our staff team who assisted The Friends once again. It was hugely appreciated.

Finally a huge thank you to all of our parents who came and supported the evening. You are all stars as by contributing you are making a real difference to the educational experiences for all of our children at GBP.

We eagerly await to see what we have raised and we will of course let you all know and in addition, we will be letting you know what our Friends will be fundraising for next academic year too.

  • Year 3 Hazel Class - Night at The Museum

Tue 11 Jul 2017 Ms Rogers

Another smashing day down here in Sussex. We even managed to avoid the rain until 4pm which is fabulous considering the Weald and Downland Museum is an open air one! The children have been superb - what an amazing Year 3 cohort we have. They are full of questions, many have a super general knowledge and they are willing to give new challenges a go. The children have had the opportunity to mill flour, build a roof using terracotta tiles, have walked a few miles, been involved in a torchlit treasure hunt, built a space station for Tim Peakes and created some fab space pictures using chalk and collage too. The kids are all very happy but getting tired. They have been well fed and watered...and later on they get to kip together in the Tim Peake Exhibition Hall... how cool is that?!!

Hope you enjoy the photographs. I will upload a few at a time as the wifi is a tad patchy.

    I hope you enjoy the

  • Year 3 Night at the Museum Hawthorn Class

Mon 10 Jul 2017 Ms Rogers

Your children have been amazing Hawthorn Class Parents. They have been an absolute joy - it has been incredible how much they have taken in today. We first went to The Weald and Downland Museum where they learned about how the houses were made and how folk survived in the past. The workshop was very interesting and the children got to mill flour, saw a guy start a fire using flint stones and learned about wattle and daub.

Next on to Chichester where the children went to the cathedral just before evening song. By this time the kids were hungry again so we took them to McDonalds for tea where they each ordered their own Happy Meal and drink. At just after half 6 we made our way to The Novium Museum where the exciting evening activities took place. Torch lit treasure hunt, junk modelling and a crafty activity before settling down to bed for a story.

The kids were shattered and I'm here now listening to the snores of the kids and Mr Wood!!! I've just realised that I forgot to ask Miss Lyddon for her camera card so you have only got my snaps to enjoy but I will upload hers to tomorrow as soon as I can.

We will let you know when we are back in school. Hope the updates have been useful and reassuring for you all.

  • Year 1 trip to the Lookout Discovery Centre

Thu 06 Jul 2017 Miss Finnimore and Miss Hanafin

Yesterday Year 1 went on their class trip to the Lookout Discovery Centre in Bracknell. The children and staff had a great day which included going into the woodlands in the mornings to complete challenges such as identifying trees, using natural resources to create a picture and hunting for mini beasts. In the afternoon, they had the chance to explore inside the science exhibition and go into the different areas including woodland and water. light and colour, forces and movement and body and perception. It was a great way to round off our Into the Woods topic!

  • Year 3 Stone Age day

Thu 06 Jul 2017 Miss Wright
Yesterday Year 3 had a fantastic Stone Age Day! It was an opportunity for the children to dress up and share some of the experiences of these pre-historic hunter gatherers. The activities included: stew cooking on an open fire in the woods, cave painting art, making caves and creating their own Stonehenge using biscuits. Have a look at some of our photos from the day.
  • Eggars Art Day

Thu 06 Jul 2017 Miss Finnimore

Last week, a selection of children from Great Binfields were invited to take part in a community Art day at Eggars Secondary School, funded by the The Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) Trust Fund. The children enjoyed a range of Art activities, which included using everyday objects to create prints and patterns in clay, which they then filled with plaster. Later they took the clay away from the plaster and were impressed that they were left with a plaster slab with their prints on. They also carried out activities with art specialist teachers, which included drawing using a range of techniques and using foam to create prints - which they particularly enjoyed having the chance to get a bit messy!

The children also got to meet with Mill Farm and loved petting the animals. Some of the children were slightly anxious at first and hadn't touched animals before, so it was great to see them growing in confidence and enjoying petting the animals by the end of the day.

  • Induction Day Success

Wed 05 Jul 2017 Ms Rogers

I know that change can be daunting for some but change is good - that's what we promote at our school. We change our classes each year so the children get to work with different children and different adults. It helps them develop their social skills, opens up their circles of friends and develops our children's tolerance as well as understand that different people have different lives, cultures, religions and issues too.

Yesterday our children had their Induction Day - where the children from 11 of our 12 classes got to meet their new class teachers in their new classrooms. Sycamore Class went to their new classroom but will meet their new teacher, Miss Canfield on the 14th July. Our Year 6s had Miss Grainger for the day as of course they will be moving on to secondary school soon.

All of our children made a great first impression and it was lovely seeing them all engrossed in their activities and getting to know their new Year Group Team.

I hope they came home with positive news - and if they are a little anxious still, that's only natural. Within a short period of time in September, they will settle in to their new surroundings.
