Belonging and Identity Day
Tue 24 Sep 2024Yesterday we held our first ever 'Belonging and Identity Day' at Great Binfields. Building a greater sense of belonging is a key part of our equality and diversity work. 'Belonging' is that sense of being somewhere, where you can be confident that you will fit in and be safe in your identity: a feeling of being at home.
During the day, we explored what ‘Belonging’ and 'Identity' means. We learnt about the diversity of our school community and had opportunities to share and talk about our own identities. We began the day with an assembly. Mrs Abbey and some of our (very brave) Year 6 pupils shared presentations about their identity, heritage, faith and culture. Then the children learned about a diverse range of artists and created their own self-portrait in the style of their choosing. After, each year group focussed on a different poet and wrote their own poetry linked to identity and belonging. We also championed the benefits/ importance of learning British Sign Language and how this can contribute to identity. We learned the Sign Language for the song 'You are my sunshine.'
To enhance Belonging and Identity Day, children came to school wearing clothes to represent their sense of belonging. The clothes could represent their culture and could be part of their national dress. The children could also wear uniform or kit to represent clubs they belong to such as Brownies and Cubs, or a sports club. Some children were just happy wearing their school uniform to show their sense of belonging to Great Binfields Primary School.

Police online safety workshop for Year 5 and 6
Wed 11 Sep 2024Today, pupils in Year 5 and 6 had a visit from the Police to discuss online safety. We discussed the apps we are using and may start using as we get older, and how we can use these safely. We learnt about important safety features, how much information our online activity can reveal about us, our digital footprint and how this can be used by others, as well as cyber bullying (how we can ensure we are not taking part in this or how we report it if we are the victim).
We are so proud of our pupils; they were very respectful, mature and honest and had a number of insightful questions for our visitors. We were impressed with their knowledge of using the internet safely and hope they feel even more empowered after this useful workshop.

Welcome back!
Wed 04 Sep 2024Welcome back everyone :-) It is SO good to see our school filled with our wonderful pupils once more in their Binfields blue and their bright PE tops! There is a real buzz of excitement which is palpable across the school. All of the children have come back in wonderfully, we are so proud of each and every one of them. They are working hard on showing their school values, particularly respect, through their use of manners. It feels like we have never been away! Take a look at the pictures to see what some of your children have been up to :-)
