  • Netball match

    Fri 27 Feb 2026

What a fantastic performance from our amazing Binfields today! 🌟 Their netball match was a true display of outstanding teamwork, determination, and cooperation from the start.

Their hard work paid off in a brilliant 25–9 victory! Well done!

  • Year 2 share their traditional tales with EYFS

    Fri 27 Feb 2026

This week, Year 2 have been focusing on traditional tales in their English lessons. To celebrate their hard work, the children visited EYFS to read aloud the stories they have been developing.

They did a wonderful job reading clearly and confidently, sharing exciting characters and familiar story language with the younger children. EYFS were a fantastic audience and thoroughly enjoyed listening.

Well done, Year 2, for showing such confidence and enthusiasm when sharing your learning!

  • Musical Fun in Year 4 and 5!

    Fri 13 Feb 2026

Today, the children in Years 4 and 5 were incredibly lucky as they had the chance to take part in a steel pan drum session with Mr Jones from Hampshire County Council. It was a pleasure to see all of the children thoroughly engaged in creating music with this unique instrument as they explored the 7 different notes which could be played. The children practised playing scales and even managed a tune, drumming the Beginner Bossa as a class.

Thank you to Ms Lyddon for organising this experience and Mr Jones to delivering four fantastic, fun-filled sessions for our children! What a way to end the half term 😊

  • Year 3- first aid training

    Thu 12 Feb 2026

On Monday, the children took part in an engaging and hands-on First Aid training session. They learned essential lifesaving skills, including how to place someone in the recovery position and how to apply bandages correctly and safely.

The children then had the opportunity to put their new knowledge into practice by working with their classmates, building both their confidence and teamwork skills. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they practised these important techniques.

They had a fantastic time learning new skills that could one day help them make a real difference.

  • Ufton Court Day Two

    Tue 10 Feb 2026 Mrs H

We had a lovely breakfast this morning: a selection of cereals, toast, fruit and fruit juice. We then got some free time and got to head back outside into the sunken garden to continue our various ball games.

We then split into 3 groups and each did the same three activities in a slightly different order:

    1. Fire making - in the woods - we made real fire! We used (wet!) twigs, cotton wool and firelighters

    2. Viking life - we discovered life without machines: making fences, weaving, making thread from wool

    3. Bow making - this was an indoor activity (the children and adults enjoyed sheltering in the warm and dry) where children made a wooden bow and arrow from three pieces of willow

It was then time for lunch: macaroni cheese and 'help yourself' salad bar. There were many of us who hadn't tried it before and really developed a taste for it and had seconds and even thirds!

After our third activity, it was a real treat for us all - homemade shortbread biscuits and hot chocolates all round. Just what we needed after a busy day!

Finally, we prepared for our banquet/feast. Those of us who wanted to (including the adults) dressed up in traditional costume and we then walked over to the barn which was beautifully decorated (it's even used for weddings!) with fairy lights and a giant cake! We enjoyed our 'family style' meal: chicken drumsticks, roast potatoes, corn on the cob and freshly baked bread BUT we weren't given forks! We had to eat our meals with our hands - just like in traditional times (don't worry - we ensured they were washed!). The adults really enjoyed being waited on by the children ;-) We all then got to enjoy the delicious Victoria sandwich cake (which was gluten and dairy-free too!) for our dessert. A couple of games later, we headed back to the main house and listened to Miss Chave read 'How to train a dragon' as our bedtime story.

I am sure all of the children are now fast asleep. They are all very excited to see their parents/carers again tomorrow and be reunited with their own beds. A battle tomorrow to enjoy first though!

    Thank you for reading :-)

  • Year 5 - Step Back in Time with Ancient Egypt

    Tue 10 Feb 2026

Year 5 enjoyed an exciting Play-in-a-Day workshop, Ancient Egypt: History’s Mystery, led by Treehouse Theatre. The children were fully immersed in their history topic as they explored life in Ancient Egypt through drama and performance.

The day began with a whole-cast assembly, followed by a series of engaging workshops focusing on key themes such as mummification, the role of scribes, the Amarna Dynasty and Cleopatra’s Egypt. Every child had the opportunity to take on a role and contribute to the performance.

In the afternoon, the children took part in voice work and warm-up activities before coming together for the final performance. It was wonderful to see the confidence, enthusiasm and teamwork they showed as they brought their learning to life on stage.

We are extremely proud of Year 5 for the focus, resilience and creativity they demonstrated throughout the day. The experience has been a memorable and enriching way to support their learning in history.

Take a look at our photographs to see the day in action.

  • Year 6 - Bikeability

    Tue 10 Feb 2026

For the last three days, Year 6 have absolutely loved taking part in their Road Safety proficiency sessions delivered by the Hampshire Bikeability team. Despite the changeable weather, it thankfully remained dry on the last two days which allowed the children to maximise their time cycling on the road. Thank you for ensuring that your child came to school wearing lots of layers so that they could enjoy their sessions much more too.

At the beginning of the week, the children learned about some of the essential checks necessary to ensuring their bike was safe before setting off on their journey, including the ABCD check – air, breaks, chain and drop out. Following on from this, the children learned how to confidently signal, how to perform a U-turn in the road and how to safely exit a junction using the 'Primary Position Prevents People Passing’ strategy amongst other road safety skills. The children were able to follow clear instructions before practising the manoeuvres themselves. The children will bring home their road cycling proficiency certificate this evening and will be able to explain all of the different elements that they learned this week. The certificates are individualised for each child and show how confident and independent they are when cycling safely on the road in each of the different areas. Please do make sure you take a look at this certificate before allowing your child to ride independently on the road without an adult.

We have seen a fantastic level of resilience and determination from all of our riders this week and we are so proud of the accomplishments and progression that they have made from their individual starting points. It has been lovely to see so many children feeling more confident when cycling on the road – even in some busy areas.

Take a look at our pictures to see how much fun we had during our Bikeability sessions.

  • Year 1 Mr Cushing Toy visit

Tue 10 Feb 2026 Mrs Davis

Our Year 1 children have been learning about the history of toys. We were very lucky to have Mr Cushing, the very first headteacher of Great Binfields Primary, come to share his extensive knowledge of old toys. Mr Cushing was able to take the children on an awe inspiring journey all the way back to the Stone age right through to modern day. He talked about the materials that toys are and have been made from over the years and how they move with various mechanisms. It was wonderful to see that the overlying message that toys are only as good as your imagination will allow was clear to the children. They impressed Mr Cushing with their knowledge so far and they made us very proud with how they displayed our school values, being respectful of the artefacts and to Mr Cushing himself.

  • Ufton Court Day One

    Mon 09 Feb 2026 Mrs H

We have had the most fantastic first day! You should be so very proud of your wonderful children, they have outdone themselves!

After a short coach journey, we arrived to Ufton Court in full sunshine and could see the goats and horses. The house itself is very grand and regal. We felt very important!

We headed to the 'sunken garden' for some free play with ball games. We also had some fresh fruit from a basket, which was delicious. We had beautiful views over the river and beyond.

We then split into two groups and partook in two activities: one took place in a Viking ship looking at trade and the other one involved a battle scene where we used shields and real weapons to re-enact a battle. We even created a shield for our teachers - we were great protectors!

It was then time for lunch - jacket potatoes, baked beans and (pasta) salad. Lots of us tried our food and some of us demolished it as soon as it arrived! We were able to help ourselves which meant we only needed to try things we wanted to :-)

After lunch, it was time to go to our rooms. We even practised a fire drill (no noisy alarm like at school!) to make sure we knew where to go in case of an emergency. We had to make our own beds which proved rather tricky but we used the school value of resilience, as well as co-operation, to help our buddies! Our adults helped us too!

We then got some inside down time - lots of screen-free, traditional activities; dominoes; chequers; draughts; connect 4; 'tug of war'. We had the best time!

It was then time for dinner - chicken, coleslaw, wedges and green beans. Again, it was self-serve so we didn't put anything on our plates that we didn't like the look of (there were quite a few green beans left ;-) We are really lucky that they let us have the 'quiet room' so it was a bit like Acorns - a busier room for those that enjoy it and a quieter room for those who needed it (Mrs H liked this option too)

After dinner it was time for one final activity in the library - a re-enactment where some of us got picked to fulfil certain roles and act/read out historical passages. Children became very passionate about this and acted with great gusto!

We intend to head to bed at 19:30 (wish us luck). Everyone is suitably tired and ready for (hopefully!) a restful night's sleep. We will keep you updated on tomorrow!

Thank you for reading and have a great evening. Please rest assured your children are being very well looked after and are having simply the best time.
