  • Miller's Ark farm visit with Early Years

    Tue 16 Jul 2024

The Early Years children had a wonderful experience this morning, as we had Miller's Ark farm come to visit us on the school field! The children were lucky enough to say hello to donkeys, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks and some super noisy pigs! We learnt some facts about each animal such as what they eat and we even got to gently stroke them. The animals were very friendly guests and the children loved every minute!

  • Year 5 and 6 summer play

    Fri 12 Jul 2024

Wow, what an amazing performance by Year 5 and 6 this year. Over the years we have seen many brilliant productions and each time we think it could not be bettered, but this week’s performance was amongst the best. The children were all so confident and really portrayed their character’s with lots of energy and charisma. They projected their voices like professionals and everyone put their heart and soul into the singing.  We are really looking forward to seeing the Year 6 continue to develop their acting talents in Year 7 and the Year 5s step into the shoes of the Year 6. There are lots of talented actors.

We all know how much work goes into these performances and everyone involved should be congratulated on an incredible end to a busy of a year.

  • Year 1 Road Safety

Tue 09 Jul 2024 Mrs Barnhouse

This morning, as part of Year 1's Outdoor Week, we focused on Road Safety. We learnt about different types of crossings that help keep us safe (how many can you identify?) as well as how to be safe and be seen when out on our bikes or scooters. The children went out in small groups to identify information related to roads and how to cross safely. Children were confident recognising the zigzag lines outside of school, as well as parallel lines. They knew these shouldn't be parked on as it stops the children from being able to identify hazards easily and therefore cross the road safely. Other groups created information videos, posters or leaflets about how to stay safe around the roads. It was great to see how hard some children worked on these. We also saw children using vehicles in their role play to act out how to cross the road; this is a great example of 'learning through play'.

Children learnt the song below (see link) in order to remember that we need to:

    Stop

    Look

    Listen

    Think

The 'Think' is particularly important; we cannot always hear electric vehicles moving, so we need to 'think' and double check it is safe when crossing the road.

Why not ask the children how much they can remember about keeping safe? We were very impressed with how sensible they were when out today.

  • Year 6 Costello Writing Project

Wed 03 Jul 2024 Mrs Osborne

Yesterday, Mrs Osborne took a group of Year 6 children to Costello to take part in a writing project. The children were given a picture stimulus which they used to plan a story in a group. The children will be returning next week to write their stories. Mrs Osborne is really looking forward to reading their final pieces.

  • Year 2's 'Hike' to Mill field, Old Basing

    Tue 02 Jul 2024

The Year 2 children had a brilliant time on Tuesday 2nd July on their Geography field trip to Mill  Field. Our Geography learning is based on a book called 'Hike', so it was very fitting for the children to go on a walk as part of this learning. Before we left, the children packed their bags with their walking kit, DT teddy bears and a picnic lunch. We headed out of the school gates and were on route! We soon arrived at Mill Field and the children were put into smaller groups. They each took part in 4 activities; feeding the ducks, playing in the park, flying paper planes and games of pooh sticks. The children thoroughly enjoyed being out in nature. We then ate our picnic lunches before walking back to school.
