  • Year 2 Road Safety

    Wed 21 May 2025

This afternoon, Year 2 were road safety detectives! We joined a virtual teams call with over 70 other schools. It was lead by the senior road safety officer for Road Safety Education and she reminded us and taught us lots about crossing the road safely. We thought about what to do if there are parked cars in the way. We know to always hold an adults hand and to stop, look, listen and think before crossing the road.

  • Year 6 - SATs Fun Friday

    Fri 16 May 2025

What a way to end SATs week! Year 6 have had a wonderful day celebrating the completion of their tests and boy did they deserve it. The children chose a long list of activities for their treat day. Throughout the day, we have had: a busy room of arts and crafts with children making hats, 3d felt fruit and vegetables and watercolour scenes; children relaxing watching films of their choice, some playing a range of educational games on the IPADs, football on the field, playing on the go-karts, playing hide and seek and den building in the forest and enjoying time together on the table football and ping pong tables. It was the perfect day to let off a bit of steam and everyone has been able to make special memories with their friends.

The Year 6 children have been absolutely incredible this week; we are SO proud of their determination to succeed, superb Growth Mindset and never-ending perseverance to demonstrate how brilliant they are. We hope they are feeling very chuffed of themselves for all they have achieved this week. SATs Breakfast Club went down a storm as always and the bacon and veggie sausage rolls and cereals were a real hit. The children have also been incredible at showing their appreciation for all the staff who have kindly rallied around to support us this week. A big thank you to just a few people who have helped make the week as smooth, motivational and as successful as possible: the wonderful team in the kitchen who came into school super early to ensure we all had a cooked breakfast roll; all the amazing staff and children at Great Binfields who have been so patient with waiting for a slightly later break time or for helping support the children through their SATs tests; and of course, to Miss Lyddon and Mrs Holdsworth for providing motivational treats and rallying us together for a stress-free week. Equally, thank you to all of the parents and carers of the Year 6 children who have been working behind the scenes to support their children in the build up to SATs but also helping to calm nerves, listen to worries and provide motivational pick me ups throughout the week. What a team effort!

Here is a collection of photos for you to see how much fun we have had this week in amongst the tests 😊

  • Year 1 Trip to Portchester Castle

    Wed 14 May 2025

On Wednesday 14th May 2025, Year 1 visited Portchester Castle as part of our History learning on Kings, Queens and Castles. We were very excited to visit a real life castle and look out for the different castle features, such as the keep, battlements, moat, drawbridge, portcullis, and bailey. Despite some of the castle being in ruins, the children were still able to imagine where some of the features would have been, for example, the drawbridge, and to imagine what life in the castle would once have been like!

The noise level on the coach erupted with pure excitement when we first arrived and the children caught their first glimpse of the castle. We had the most wonderful time exploring the castle and its grounds, including climbing the many stairs to reach the different levels of the keep. Some of the children even tried out a section of the spiral staircase, which was steep and narrow! The castle museum was really interesting and contained artefacts from an archaeological dig on site, such as a skull, jawbone, a cannonball and even a hairbrush!

The children also took part in a workshop, run by members of English Heritage. They told us interesting facts about the history of Portchester Castle, including information about the Kings who once lived and ruled there! Some of the children were given the opportunity to dress up as kings, guards and servants, as well hold a long bow and a piece of chain mail! The children were so enthusiastic during their workshops, and impressed with their knowledge of castles.

To end the day, we walked around the outside of the castle walls to the beach. We had a fruity snack and the chance to throw some stones into the sea. It was a fantastic end to a fun and informative day!

  • Year 3 Trip to Fishbourne

Tue 13 May 2025 Mrs Greehy and Miss Wynne

What an exciting Friday Year 3 had! They visited Fishbourne Roman Palace near Chichester. Throughout the day, they were able to explore the palace, learning facts about how it was found and what happened to it a long time ago. They also had an interactive workshop which involved playing games, making mosaics, looking inside a replica kitchen, spinning wool, wax and ink writing. After this, they walked around the museum learning facts and exploring about roman buildings, coins and houses. In the palace, they have real mosaics on the floor from the Roman time which the children found fascinating to look at the intricate detail. Around the palace, the children wandered around the replica gardens, and realised how it would have looked if they went back in time! It was a wonderful day for the Year 3’s. Their behaviour was excellent and it bought their Roman learning to life!

  • KS2 Rugby

Fri 02 May 2025 Mrs Gough

Our KS2 rugby team have had excellent success this year thanks to their outstanding efforts and Mr Wood’s expertise.

Here is a lovely recount from some of our team…

‘Great Binfields competed in the 24/25 Tudor league. We played 12 games, won 11 and drew the last one. We drew against St Mary’s after a big team effort. First we played at Fairfield’s home and then St Mary’s. After that, we played at Rucstall and finished the league at Great Binfields. We had the biggest win of the season with a 6-0 win. Our wins would not be possible without our amazing coach- Mr Wood! Thank you so much for making this possible. Thank you to all the teams who we played against. You all played brilliant tag rugby.’

  • Year R Bikeability!

    Thu 01 May 2025

Last week the new term started very excitedly as Early Years took part in Bikeability training , using the Balance bikes.  They started by learning about how to make sure our clothing is safe when going on a bike and we then all did a helmet check to make sure that everyone knew the correct way to wear a bike helmet.

Next we moved onto making sure our bikes were safe. The children were taught how to check their tyres to make sure they had enough air in them, then how to ensure the brakes were working and finally how to make sure that the handlebars were tight enough.

Once all the checks had been completed, the children were shown how to walk safely with a bike and steer it around cones. We then moved onto riding our bikes. We started by using little steps to move from one place to another and then gradually made these bigger and bigger until we were pushing and gliding all the way across the playground.

Over the rest of the week the children continued to work on their gliding skills, as well as learning to navigate between and around cones. The children also had to control different speeds and played games to make them stop and start on command.  Finally the children had a range of routes to use around the playground. These criss crossed each other, meaning that they would be travelling into each other's paths. This meant that the children had to stay focused and watch out for other moving bikes that might be travelling towards the same space as them.

The children all looked forward to their bikeability session each day and it was lovely to see the increase in confidence and resilience throughout the progression of the week.
