  • Year 6 Greek Day

    Fri 17 Oct 2025

Year 6 had the pleasure of performing their very own Ancient Greece themed play-in-a-day based on the topics of 'War and Peace’. The amazing Ben from the Treehouse Theatre Company helped to bring our Ancient Greece topic to life and allowed the children to put into practise all their learning from across this half term. The children all looked fantastic in their outfits - thank you! This has really helped bring the day to life. It has also helped the children take on the role of their characters, which they took very seriously. We were impressed with how confidently the children delivered their lines too. There are certainly some impressive actors and actresses within the year group.

Alongside of this, we have been learning about the Ancient Greek alphabet, words with Ancient Greek origins and different Greek gods and goddesses.

Take a look at the photos below to see all about our day.

  • Year 6 Art Gallery

    Fri 17 Oct 2025

Today, Year 6 opened the doors to our Art Gallery; we invited in parents and carers to come and view the art work created during our Ancient Greece topic. Our focus has been Ancient Greek amphora. We exhibited our scratch art of a Greek amphora, which supported us in practising the repeating patterns which we noticed featured on amphora, as well as appreciating the colour contrast of orange / red against black.

Alongside our scratch art, we exhibited our clay amphora, which we made using the techniques of pinch potting, coiling and scoring and using slip to join handles and a neck. We painted these considering the colours of amphora from Ancient Greece and used black pens to add repeating patterns and murals.

Take a look at some of the pictures our of wonderful artwork.

  • Year 2 Great Fire of London Day

    Thu 16 Oct 2025

Today, Year 2 had a fantastic day celebrating their learning with a special event all about the Great Fire of London. The highlight of the day was a visit from Ben at Treehouse Theatre, who transported us all the way back to September 2nd, 1666. Through exciting storytelling and immersive role play, the children became part of history!

Each child was given a new name typical of the time and chose a job from 1666 — we had bakers, maids, city guards, teachers, and more bustling through the streets of old London.

One of the most exciting activities was building our own model of London as it would have looked in 1666. Using simple nets, we constructed Victorian-style houses and placed them closely together, just like they were back then. Then came the (pretend!) fire — and we watched as it spread across 80% of our model city, helping us understand just how quickly the fire spread in real life.

The day also included a music lesson and an art session, giving the children the chance to explore the topic through creativity and expression.

It was a brilliant day full of fun, learning, and imagination — a perfect way to bring history to life!

  • Ada Lovelace Day STEM workshops

    Wed 15 Oct 2025

On Tuesday, six Year 6 girls attended a STEM workshop run by AWE. The pupils took part in so many interesting and varied workshops run by the AWE STEM ambassadors. The purpose of the workshops was to encourage girls into STEM subjects. It was inspiring to hear from females in STEM roles at AWE and learn about key figures from these industries from history and now.

We learnt about Mary Cartwirght, the pioneer of the chaos theory, and fractals (a complex, never-ending geometric pattern) and tried to create our own using blue tac and cocktail sticks. We were so impressed with the pupils' perseverance during this learning activity. We also learnt about female volcanologists, Katia Kraftt, and created our own volcano using the 'elephant toothpaste' experiment. In addition, we learnt about Lucy Jones ('the Beyonce of Earthquakes') and built our own seismograph. As you can see it was a jam packed, inspiring and exciting day that captured the pupils’ curiosity.

Thank you to the AWE team for organising such a fantastic day.

  • Autumn EARA meeting

    Wed 15 Oct 2025

Today our EARA (Equality and Rights Advocates) group took part in their Autumn cluster meeting with other schools from across Basingstoke. For some of our group it was their first time attending and they really made GBP proud! They showed many of our school values, got involved in discussions and were highly engaged. For those who had been before, they displayed a real confidence when talking about issues surrounding rights and equality.

The morning began with a quick recap on the purpose of EARA and the United Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Then the children took part in a game with pupils from other schools which had a focus of listening. They watched a video called 'Belonging' and finally created a mind map about what belonging means to them.

  • Equality and Rights Advocates (EARA)

    Sat 11 Oct 2025

This week GBP's EARA group had their first meeting with their new members. The Equality and Rights Advocates were overwhelmed with the number of brilliant applications they received and had a hard time (anonymously) whittling it down to select their new members.

At their first meeting they discussed their top priorities for the coming year and have made it their intention to gather as many children's views on equality and rights as they can. They are looking forward to the next Basingstoke EARA cluster meeting which takes place next week! Watch this space...

Today’s recipes consisted of: Greek-inspired pizzas, Greek burgers, Greek cookies, homemade pita bread and Tzatziki. Take a look at the photos to see our chefs in action…

  • Year 3 Stone Age day

    Thu 09 Oct 2025

The children in Year 3 had the best time on Tuesday when they dressed up for Stone Age day. Thank you to all the Year 3 parents for your support with the costumes. They all looked absolutely incredible!

The highlight of the day was spending time in the woods! The children enjoyed getting into character through role play, such as hunting and making shelters. They also learned how to make fire. The fires were then used to cook meat and vegetable stews for the children to eat in the afternoon. Whilst some children were not keen to taste the end result, others came back for extra helpings!

Another highlight was making Stone Age clay houses, based on the settlement found at Skara Brae! They showed real perseverance to produce the finished result, with most houses taking at least an hour to make!

A great day was had by everyone! We can't wait for the next theme day!
