Jungle Jonathon for Year 5
Fri 10 Mar 2023On Wednesday, Jungle Jonathan visited Year 5 with some of his creepy crawly creatures as part of their Walk on the Wild Side topic. The children loved meeting all the animals which ranged from millipedes to stick insects, to tarantulas, to geckos, to snakes. Jonathan was able to provide the children with lots of expert knowledge about the animals and their natural habitats. Take a look at the photos of the children meeting the animals - would you be brave enough to hold them?!

Year 2 Tea Party
Thu 09 Mar 2023Today our Year 2s had an exciting treat. We have been working hard in class to prepare for our Traditional Tales Tea Party. It was so lovely that we were able to invite adults back into school for this event, thank you to all our guests who attended.
We shared traditional tales that we had written with our guests. We made some twists to these well known stories. Around the hall traditional tale characters were hidden and we went on a hunt to find them all. The most popular part of the event was trying out the delicious snacks and refreshments that were provided. It was so lovely for our children to spend time with their guests and show case some of their learning. The tea party is a real highlight of our topic and this year was no different. There were lots of smiles all round, as you can see from the pictures

EARA Conference
Mon 27 Feb 2023Last week a few of our pupils were lucky enough to attend the Spring Term EARA Conference. EARA stands for Equality and Rights Ambassadors. The session focussed on using tools/ mediums other than our voices to champion an issue. In particular for this session the prime focus was art. We met an artist and activist called Osman Ahmed. He shared some of his artwork with us and we discussed the messages they may have been trying to communicate. After that, we created our own designs/ pieces which could be used to advocate equality and rights.

Year 1 Tea party
Thu 09 Feb 2023Year 1 had a really exciting day yesterday as we welcomed visitors into the school for a tea party. Year 1 have been working hard this half term and they have been carrying out tasks based on toys. This includes a biography and a piece of toy art. Each child invited a grown up in to share their work with them. We also had games to play with the grown ups including pin the nose on the teddy. Some of the grown ups even bought in their old toys to show us. It was very exciting and the children loved finding out all about the different toys. We all had an amazing afternoon. Thank you to all the grown ups who took the time to attend. It was lovely to see the pure joy in the children's faces when they were telling you all about our topic.

Digital Leaders lead the way on Safer Internet Day!
Wed 08 Feb 2023I'm so proud of our Digital Leaders who successfully presented our whole school Safer Internet Day assembly launch yesterday. They really did themselves proud and it was a great start to the day for all. The theme this year was: 'Want to talk about it?' Speaking of which, we highly recommend you do exactly that and speak to your children about what they did on Safer Internet Day as it looked different in every year group. What can they remember about what was discussed? What did they do? Which key messages have they taken away from the day?

Thank you Mrs Gilham - Year 3's First Aid Day
Wed 08 Feb 2023A huge thank you to our Parent Governor Mrs Gilham for once again bringing the children's learning to life in the form of Year 3's First Aid Day. Whilst they always have great fun bandaging each other and pretending to put each other in the recovery position, they also understand the seriousness of the day. They always get a huge amount out of it and, let's hope they don't need to use it anytime soon, how wonderful that they know the basic life skill of First Aid. Thank you once again Mrs Gilham for taking time out of your busy schedule to make this day happen for us once again. We are super grateful.

Year 6 Bikeability Week
Thu 19 Jan 2023This week, Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a series of Road Safety proficiency sessions delivered by the Hampshire Bikeability team. Despite the cold weather, it thankfully remained nice and dry which allowed the children to maximise their time cycling on the road. Thank you for ensuring that your child came to school wearing lots of layers so that they could enjoy their sessions much more too!
At the beginning of the week, the children learned about some of the essential checks necessary to ensuring their bike was safe before setting off on their journey, including the ABC check – air, breaks and chain. Following on from this, the children learned how to signal, how to perform a U-turn in the road and how to safely exit a junction using the 'Primary Position Prevents People Passing’ strategy amongst other road safety skills. The children were incredibly polite and sensible and were able to follow clear instructions before practising the manoeuvres themselves. The children will bring home their road cycling proficiency certificate tomorrow and will be able to explain all of the different elements that they learned this week.
We have seen a fantastic level of resilience and determination from all of our riders this week and we are so proud of the accomplishments and progression that they have each made individually. It has been lovely to see so many children feeling more confident when cycling on the road.
Take a look at our pictures to see how much fun we had during our Bikeability sessions.

Year 6 - Hampton Court Palace
Wed 11 Jan 2023The Year 6 children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Hampton Court Palace today; I have genuinely never heard so many gasps of awe and wonder when we stepped foot in The Great Hall. The children were shocked by the sheer size and grandeur of the palace but equally loved exploring the meaning behind some of the more intricate details too - the entwined initials H and A which were carved into the wood in The Great Hall to resemble Henry’s love for his wife Anne Boleyn.
The children were incredibly well behaved throughout the trip and enjoyed retracing Henry VIII’s steps through the never-ending corridors. Particular areas of interest included Henry VIII’s kitchens and peeking down into the Royal Chapel, where the heart of one of Henry’s wives heart is said to be buried. I wonder if the children can remember which one it was and can tell you more?
Alongside exploring the palace itself, the children took part in an intriguing workshop called ‘Investigating Henry’. This session, which was led by the staff at Hampton Court, encouraged the children to think critically and evaluate a variety of primary and secondary sources to help them understand more about the kind of man Henry was. Using replica artefacts and excerpts from contemporary Tudor sources, the children were curious to weigh up the evidence and construct a balanced opinion of Henry VIII by asking key enquiry questions. It was fascinating to find out that there is more to Henry VIII than the popular stereotypes!
We are sure that the children were eager to share the facts they had learned and describe the array of artefacts witnessed as throughout the trip the children demonstrated such excitement and a genuine love of learning about this historical period, immersing themselves in Tudor life within the walls of Hampton Court Palace. Take a look at some of the photos from today to find out more…

Emergency School Closure
Thu 15 Dec 2022This afternoon we had a major leak in the main school kitchen and it's erupted again this evening - linked to our school heating, so we have no choice other than to close school tomorrow (16th December 2022).
We understand that a lot of children will be disappointed due not being able to wish their teachers and friends Happy Christmas, however I'm sure you will understand that this situation is out of our control.
We are so sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Regards,
Ms Rogers
