  • Year 3 Iron Age Day

Wed 12 Nov 2025 Miss Marshall and Mrs Wood

Year 3 had a fantastic day exploring life in the Iron Age! Iron Age Matt began with an engaging talk about the journey from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, bringing along fascinating artefacts for the children to investigate. The pupils learned how Iron Age people dressed and even got to hold replica shields, spears and swords.

Throughout the day, the children rotated through hands-on activities - grinding flour with a quern stone, examining furs and animal skins. In the afternoon, everyone took part in warrior training, practising with foam swords and spears and the children even got to create their own Iron Age shields.

It was an exciting and memorable day that brought our new history topic to life!

  • Avon Tyrrell - Day 2

    Wed 12 Nov 2025

The children settled really well last night and were excited to spend their first night away! They slept brilliantly after enjoying an exciting (and very soggy) night walk yesterday evening where they got to try pine needle tea! They have all been working well with the children in their rooms to keep everything tidy and organised.

To launch day two, the children energised themselves with delicious pancakes, berries, maple syrup or chocolate sauce! We then enjoyed a jam-packed day full of activities, including: abseiling, mountain biking, zip wire and bush craft. We have been really impressed with the amount of grit, determination and courage that the children have displayed throughout the day. Some children even confronted their fears and despite feeling nervous, truly gave their all to each activity. Lunch was spaghetti bolognese, garlic bread and jacket potatoes which was much appreciated after a busy, high energy morning.

We have honestly been so impressed with the children and can see the Great Binfields values shining through in their attitudes and behaviours, despite it being quite rainy. Teamwork, resilience, creativity in their problem solving and aspiration to succeed have been in abundance over the past few days. It has been so wonderful to see the children working together so beautifully and encouraging each other in some high-adrenaline activities!

This evening, we have enjoyed pizza night and will be having a cosy film before heading to bed where we are sure everyone will sleep well after another busy day.

Here are some reviews of the day:

“I have loved the activities and my favourite was zipwire because it was really fun going over the pond!” Sienna E

“I loved the abseiling - I was scared but when I did it, it was a lot less scary! We also got a great view for the zipline.” Xena

“I like spending time in my room with my friends and I liked the den building quite a lot. I am looking forward to the pioneering later.” Jamie

“I have enjoyed spending time with my friends. I also love the food here - especially the pizza.” Aydin

“Lighting fires in the Bushcraft activity was really cool. I also love the food here!” Harley

  • Great Binfields Remembers

Tue 11 Nov 2025 Mrs Gough

At 11:00 this morning, everyone at Great Binfields showed their respect by taking part in a minute’s silence to remember the brave soldiers who have fought for our country. Mrs Holdsworth taught us some interesting facts about the ‘Last Post’ and explained why it is such an important part of Remembrance. We then listened carefully to a lovely poem she shared, which helped us think about the courage and sacrifices made by so many. We all felt very proud to take part and to remember together as a school.

  • Avon Tyrrell - Day 1

    Tue 11 Nov 2025

Despite grey skies, we had the most beautiful journey to Avon Tyrrell, through the New Forest; we were spotting the ponies along the way and had to let cows cross the road. Whilst enjoying the beauty of this area of the country, we sang a lot of songs annd were in high spirits.  We were very excited for our final destination.

First on the agenda was to tell the very excitable children who they would be sharing a room with. After plenty of celebrations and jubilations, the cheering soon came to a pause as the children were required to make their own beds. With a little cooperation and lots of adult help, everyone was able to settle into a cosy bed tonight.

Our afternoon started with a delicious lunch (fish and chips or jacket potato) which was swiftly followed by an afternoon jam packed with activities, including: an adventure trail, bushcraft, shelter building, mountain biking, the challenge course, archery and abseiling. During the bushcraft session, the children had to collect fuel and build our own fires. It required a lot of teamwork and resilience, especially whilst using the flint and steel.

It was also great to see lots of children getting out of their comfort zone as they cycled through the forest and took on lots of hilly and bumpy terrain - ending on a steep, continuous incline. The perseverance was incredible. Mrs Osborne was proud of the children who had been feeling slightly 'rusty' with Mountain Biking but pushed themselves further.

After a filling roast chicken dinner or lentil loaf, we all enjoyed a leisurely night walk where they learnt about the history of Avon Tyrrell and made fresh pine needle tea. We tried hard to keep our torches off to adjust our eye-sight to the darkness. It was remarkable how much you could see. The children have made the absolute most of their first day!

This evening, the children have settled beautifully and are already making all of the adults incredibly proud. Here are a few quotes from the children themselves about their day so far:

“There are so many amazing activities. I can’t wait to try them all. Also the staff are so friendly.” Oliver

“I am really enjoying being with my friends, especially playing on the table football in my free time.” Finlay H

“We got very muddy doing the bushcraft. But it was really fun and I managed to light a fire.” Sophia

    “The rooms are huge!” Autumn

“I loved being out in nature today. We found loads of variety of mushrooms on our adventure trail. The staff could tell us about them all.” Evie

Keep checking in throughout the week to see what your wonderful children are getting up to. Take a look at a selection of photographs from today, more will be uploaded over the next few days.

  • Remembrance Service

    Mon 10 Nov 2025

Yesterday two of our School Prefects took part in the Basingstoke Remembrance Service, accompanied by Mrs Franklin and Miss Lyddon. The children laid a remembrance wreath, on behalf of GBP, and were incredibly respectful throughout the service.

  • Year 2’s Marmalade Sandwich Adventure!

    Fri 07 Nov 2025

Year 2 followed Paddington’s instructions brilliantly and made their own marmalade sandwiches this morning! Everyone then tasted their creations and mostly agreed with Paddington — thumbs up all round!

Next week, Year 2 will be using today’s experience as inspiration to write their own set of instructions for making a marmalade sandwich.

  • Year 5/6 Netball match

    Fri 07 Nov 2025

A huge well done to our brilliant netball team for a fantastic match yesterday at Bramley School! Mrs Gough and Mrs Russel were absolutely blown away by the teamwork, resilience, and enjoyment shown throughout the game.

GBP began the final third of the match trailing 6–0, but with determination and incredible team spirit, they turned the score around to finish 9–7. What an amazing achievement!

We were so impressed by their effort and attitude that the team has been nominated for a Resilience Badge.

A big thank you to Bramley School for hosting us, and a special shout-out to all our wonderful parent supporters for their encouragement from the sidelines.

Well done, team — we are so proud of you!

  • Early Years scooter training and road safety

    Tue 04 Nov 2025

Rowan and Birch class had an amazing time yesterday as we enjoyed participating in both scooter and road safety training! During scooter training, the children learned lots of new skills including how to stop and start safely on command, crouching, gliding and weaving around cones! The children listened beautifully and used their spatial awareness and co- ordination skills to navigate their scooter and did an amazing job.

During road safety training, the children were very sensible throughout, and made sure they listened carefully to instructions at all times, in order to cross the road and paths safely. They also learned how to look out for potential dangers, such as driveways which are not obvious roads. We also discussed external factors such as other people, animals and vehicles such as electric cars being very quiet and bin lorries. In addition to this, we discussed the different types of crossing that the children may come across and the importance of using our senses to navigate the road safely.

We were super proud of the children's resilience throughout and children and adults alike had lots of fun!

  • Year 6 Greek Day

    Fri 17 Oct 2025

Year 6 had the pleasure of performing their very own Ancient Greece themed play-in-a-day based on the topics of 'War and Peace’. The amazing Ben from the Treehouse Theatre Company helped to bring our Ancient Greece topic to life and allowed the children to put into practise all their learning from across this half term. The children all looked fantastic in their outfits - thank you! This has really helped bring the day to life. It has also helped the children take on the role of their characters, which they took very seriously. We were impressed with how confidently the children delivered their lines too. There are certainly some impressive actors and actresses within the year group.

Alongside of this, we have been learning about the Ancient Greek alphabet, words with Ancient Greek origins and different Greek gods and goddesses.

Take a look at the photos below to see all about our day.
