Amélie's Hanukah Assembly
Thu 04 Dec 2014On Tuesday, Amélie of Pine Class delivered a superb assembly to the whole school about the Jewish festival of Hanukah. Amélie put lots of time and effort into preparing a PowerPoint presentation and finding video clips to show to the children.
During the assembly, Amélie explained to us about the history of Hanukah and how it is celebrated around the world today. She described how her family celebrates Hanukah and even brought in a Menorah (See photo) and a Jewish hat called a Kippa. Did you know that each candle of the Menorah has a different meaning?
We were all very impressed with how confident Amélie was at speaking in front of the whole school and would like to thank her for sharing a lovely assembly with us!

Can you help with donations for our Christmas Fair?
Tue 02 Dec 2014Thank you to the many parents who have donated toys and books for the Children's Stall at the Fair. We are now looking for donations for the adult bottle tombola - this does not need to be alcohol, but can be shampoo, soft drinks, in fact almost anything in a bottle! If you have anything you can donate please send it in to our school office tomorrow or Thursday - and don't forget, if you can bake we need individual cakes on Friday morning for the cake stall.Even more important - do make sure you have this event in your diary. We need you and your children to come to help make this a really successful Fair!We are looking forward to seeing you all. -
Super Christmas Hampers Created
Tue 02 Dec 2014This year we were approached by Basingstoke Voluntary Action Charity to help them to provide food boxes to those less fortunate than ourselves so they would benefit enormously from a little extra at Christmas time. The class food boxes we have created will be given to refuges, hostels and underprivileged families making a huge difference to their Christmas.
We would like to thank you all for supporting your children's class' project. The Christmas Hampers look fabulous.
Pictures to follow...

Craft Club Fun!
Fri 28 Nov 2014We have many exciting extra-curricular clubs here at Great Binfields Primary School and it is great to see our children grow in confidence during these sessions, having fun and also sharpening those vital social skills too.
This week I have popped into our two Craft Clubs and both times they were busy beavering away, making Christmas decorations and Christmas gift bags.
Thank you to our teachers and parent helpers who help to run these clubs - we really do appreciate the time and effort you put in to ensure the children get lots from the sessions planned.

Well done Jaden - a super star!
Fri 28 Nov 2014We were all very proud of Jaden today as we learned that he did a very brave and sensible thing to help his mum yesterday evening. His mum had an accident in the kitchen and fainted (she is ok now). Jaden made sure his brother was safe and popped next door to his neighbour's house to raise the alarm.
All of our KS2 children received First Aid Training by an external agency this half term and part of the course was all about 'What to do in an emergency' and our visit from the Fire service who worked with Years 1 and 2 also touched upon this.
It might be an idea to talk to your children about what they should do in an emergency when at home, so they are clear of what they can and can not do.

Keeping our Teeth Healthy!
Wed 26 Nov 2014On Tuesday this week Sycamore and Willow class were lucky enough to have a visit from two dental nurses from the South Ham dental clinic. Lauren talked to the children about teeth and how important it is to make good choices about food and drink. She suggested that the children only had a fizzy drink on their birthdays! While this was not received too well the children all loved the mini tube of toothpaste and stickers the nurses gave them! -
