  • After School Care Provision Starting at GBP!

Wed 08 Mar 2017 Mrs Worgan
    Dear Parents and Carers
We are really pleased to announce our after school provision with SCL will be opening on Tuesday 25 April 2017.
you should have received an email with a flyer attached about this and bookings will open from Monday 6 March 2017 to reserve spaces.  This provision will be based in our new hall which is a lovely, bright space looking onto our new courtyard area.  Just in case there are any delays, we already have a Plan B which will make use of the modular building and the main hall, but we are hopeful we will not need to do this.
We have spent quite a lot of time and effort in ensuring this provision, which has just received its Ofsted accreditation, is the very best we can provide for our pupils who need this after school care and hope it will prove to be a popular addition and benefit for our parents.
    Kind regards
    Mrs Worgan
  • Jungle Jonathan Visits Great Binfields Primary School

Tue 07 Mar 2017 Miss Hunt and Mrs Osborne

Today, the Year 5 and 6 children welcomed Jungle Jonathan and his many creepy crawly friends into their classrooms as part of our ‘Walk on the Wildside’ topic. Although many of the children were a little apprehensive at the start of the session (including the adults), the children were absolutely fantastic when taking part and facing their fears. They all showed a very calm and caring nature with both the animals, and each other - encouraging one another with a ‘give it a go’ attitude. The children were able to ask lots of burning questions about the animals that live in the Amazon Rainforest and were blown away by Jungle Jonathan’s knowledge and love for his creatures. Year 5 and 6 were able to interact with Millie the millipede, a Madagascan Ground Boa and tarantula to name but a few creatures. If you wanted to have a little look of your own at some of the animals that came into school today, I would urge you to take a look at Jungle Jonathan’s website: http://www.jonathansjungleroadshow.co.uk. Check out our class pages (Sycamore and Willow) to have a look at some of the pictures we took today!

  • 'EGG'citing

Tue 07 Mar 2017 Miss Lemar
Early Years had a special visitor from Mill Cottage Farm, who delivered some chicken eggs in an incubator to us. She talked to us about the life cycle of chickens and how we need to look after the eggs, to help them hatch. We are very excited to observe the different stages and see the chicks when they hatch! Keep checking back for regular updates on how our eggs are doing!
  • Theatre trip to Room on The Broom

Sun 05 Mar 2017 Miss Rogers

Nearly 40 of our children met us at The Haymarket Theatre in Basingstoke this Sunday morning to watch Julia Donaldson's fabulous story of Room On The Broom. It was so good - making us laugh lots too. The actors really did bring the characters alive and it was great hearing some of the children whisper the next part as they knew the story so well. It was a very clever adaptation and our children were engaged and extremely well behaved throughout. Once again seeing them so excited and happy was an absolute delight.

Thank to Anvil Arts for giving us a reduced rate as we were a group booking but a huge thank you must go to our fabulous staff (Miss Finnimore, Miss Hanafin, Miss Lemar and Mrs Barnhouse) who gave up their Sunday morning to chaperone the children with me. Our staff really do go above and beyond to make sure our children get the very best of opportunities.

We will certainly do this again as this is our second trip to the theatre this year and it works well. If you haven't been lucky and got a ticket so far don't despair - you will get a chance in the future.

  • Excited about our forthcoming Challenge Evening

Fri 03 Mar 2017 Miss Rogers

Hope you and your children are looking forward to our first ever Challenge Evening which is on Wednesday 15th March from 3.30 until 5pm. You can drop by any time during this time and it's totally free.

There are lots of really fun activities planned. The aim is to find out if our children can effectively challenge an adult as part of our growth mindset learning. I wonder what values we will be using during the event?

The children will find out more during our next Monday's assembly. Some of our year 6s have also produced a fab short video to explain it all so we will send a link for this to our whole school community on Monday.

  • Abacus Maths Homework Help

Fri 03 Mar 2017 Mrs Barnhouse

Everyone should have now received their information letter explaining about Abacus Maths homework. This letter will explain what Abacus is all about. It also explains you will need to download Google Chrome (Windows) or Mozilla Firefox (Apple) web browser to access Abacus. Please note you may not be able to log in if you are using Internet Explorer or Safari (which all i-pads, i-phones use as standard) as these do not always support Adobe Flash Player (required for the games). These are easy to download.

If you have noticed problems but have already tried using these web browsers then please speak with your class teacher early next week.

  • Our children visited the new build

Thu 02 Mar 2017 Miss Rogers

This week our children had the chance to have a look inside our new building. The project is in the final stages of completion so it was fantastic for our children to see how far it has come. As per usual, they had lots of interesting questions to ask as they toured around.

It was once again great seeing our children's happy excited and happy faces. A highlight for our staff was seeing their reaction as they popped through into the existing building. For lots, it was an utter surprise that it actually joined up!!!! Our children certainly make us smile!

During our Friday Achievement Assembly, we all had a quick debrief about the visits that took place. The children could identify many similarities and differences between the old and new buildings. They were really pleased that it matched our original building and I'm sure our architect, Fiona Burrows is going to be really happy knowing that. The kids can't wait to move in now and neither can we - The countdown is definitely on!
