  • Day Two - The Eden Project

Tue 20 Jul 2021 Miss Lyddon

Another hot and sunny day here in Devon. The children have been amazing, even though it has at times, been hot and sticky! At the Eden project we had a workshop called Rainforest Detectives. Here we had to find different ways to survive, in the Rainforest, by discovering aspects of the Biodomes. We had three categories - shelter, food and medicine/health.

We did achieve the highest point of the Biodome too as we went in the morning!! It was very hot, but the waterfall gave us a refreshing blast of cool air!

Once back in our Eden classroom, the children had to present their findings. Lovely to see their 'Walk on the Wild side' topic come to life. Lots of knowledge remembered and shared with each other and the Eden project staff.... so proud of them so they had an ice cream from Miss Lyddon on the way home!

Once back on the farm, the children had some free time before dinner, shower and story. Good night all.

  • Tuesday Morning Farm Duties

Tue 20 Jul 2021 Miss Lyddon

Good morning from a hot and sunny Stone Farm. Farm duties have been completed and we are now off for a wholesome breakfast!!! It was absolutely magical seeing the children interacting with the animals so, so well. The Eden Project news will be uploaded later.

  • Year 6 - Go Ape Adventure

    Mon 19 Jul 2021

Year 6 had a cracking time at Go Ape, Alice Holt today. The weather was glorious and the children fully immersed themselves in all of the activities on offer. The Treetop Adventure proved to be quite a challenge, yet all of the children plucked up the courage to face the heights of the course and zoomed down the zip wire with beaming smiles on their faces. Some of the adults pushed themselves out of their comfort zones too and tackled the exhilarating course. The children also took part in a Gorilla Games session where they used their teamwork skills in a variety of challenges. The Go Ape team brought lots of fun and energy to the activity and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Here is a collection of photos for you to see how much fun we had.

  • Day One at Stone Farm

Mon 19 Jul 2021 Miss Lyddon

We have arrived safely at Stone Farm. A super, safe journey with a stop over at Buckfast Abbey - which was great fun. We explored the Monks' gardens, made a dragonfly, did some bug hunting and learnt about different aspects of the Abbey.   Year 5 have settled into their new home for the week, had a tour around the farm by Mr Hatton, Dave and Ruth,  and we have had dinner - yum yum!!! The animals are now in bed and the children are just off to bed too - Night, Night.

  • Y6 Leavers' Assembly

Fri 16 Jul 2021 Ms Rogers

Today our Y6 children made us proud as they showcased their Jamaica Learning in our courtyard before we handed out their end of GBP journey gifts. The poems, songs and dances were just fabulous and you made your teachers, LSAs and parents so happy and proud of you.

I meant every word in my speech and I know you will go on to do wonderful things. You will certainly be missed. I hope you liked your memory card, your certificate, GBP Bear keyring and hoodie - wear this with pride next week in school.

Mrs Cullinane has written you a letter which will be emailed out alongside my last letter to you on Thursday of next week.

  • First Aid Learning in Y3

Fri 16 Jul 2021 Ms Rogers

Our Year Threes were fortunate enough to have a visit from one of our very own parent governors today who spoke to them about the vital life skill of First Aid. They role played various activities: including the recovery position and bandaging after an accident. This evening and next week they will be bringing home their very own First Aid pack. It would be wonderful if you could discuss what they did with them and quiz them on how much they can remember.

  • Year 3 Stone Age Day

    Tue 13 Jul 2021 Mrs H

Well we certainly did not let the dull weather dampen our spirits for Stone Age Day on Monday! We had a fantastic day of: building settlements, being hunter-gatherers, preparing, cooking and eating our very own Stone Age stew and making Stone Age houses out of clay. It was a jam-packed day and certainly one to remember! Our outfits were super authentic and we really got into role! A great way of bringing our topic to life!

  • Year 1 Outdoor Week

    Mon 12 Jul 2021 Miss O'Hagan

Last week was Year One Outdoor Week. It really is one of the highlights of our year and the children were so excited to get stuck in. Throughout the week, the children took part in a huge range of activities. We searched for minibeasts all around our woods and outside grounds, we created minibeast hotels, we created a 'listening map' of what sounds we could hear outside and much, much more. The children had lots of opportunities to get a little adventurous with their learning and test out their ability to problem solve and communicate effectively with each other. One of our highlights was having Miss Lyddon with us. She showed us how to create a fire safely and then let us toast marsh mellows around it!

The children were so enthusiastic and happy to get involved with all of the activities - possibly coming home a little bit more mucky than when they arrived! Thank you again to everyone involved in putting Outdoor Week together and well done children for your fantastic learning.

  • Year 6 visit the Willis Museum

    Mon 12 Jul 2021

Despite the drizzly start, Year 6 enjoyed a super trip to the Willis Museum in Basingstoke Town today. Ms Rogers came along with us too and led an insightful and inspiring discussion about the life of Matisse and his artwork. The children then explored the gallery with a fantastic level of curiosity and enjoyed observing Matisse’s vividly bright designs. They all demonstrated fantastic behaviours in a gallery setting, some of whom had never visited a gallery before. The curators even commented on how well behaved the children were and how nice it was to hear visitors within the museum once again. We also made the most of the Willis Museum itself and learnt lots about the history of our local town over the past 200 years. The children were shocked at the style of the 1960s kitchen!

Take a look at our pictures to see how much fun we had.

  • Year 5 Visit to Butser Farm

Fri 09 Jul 2021 Mrs Osborne

Year 5 had a fantastic trip to Butser Farm today to learn about the Vikings and Saxons. They took part in activities such as spinning wool, clunching (making Saxon cement), pottery and a tour of the Saxon houses. The staff at Butser Farm were so impressed with how well-mannered and hard-working the children were, so they should be very proud of themselves. Take a look at the photos to find out more...
