  • Fire Service visit Year 2

Thu 03 Nov 2016 Mrs Barnhouse

Year 2 had a great day learning about fire and road safety. Hampshire Fire Service visited Great Binfields and brought along their special fire engine so we were able to learn about the job of a firefighter and how to keep safe. The day started with a special class assembly where we were taught 2 rhymes...ask your children to teach these to you! The firefighters showed us the special equipment they have to wear in order to keep themselves safe. Can you remember the names of the different equipment? The firefighters also reminded us that if we were ever in a fire then make lots of noise so they know where to find us; Year 2 were able to practice this very well!

During the day we played a game, answering questions about both fire and road safety, listened to a story and even went outside to practice putting a fire out!

Year 2 learnt some very important facts about being safe. Here are just a few:

    1. Test your smoke alarms once a week.

    2. Make sure adults keep matches and lighters out of children's reach.

    3. Stop, look and listen when crossing the road and use a crossing if there is one available.

    4. When riding a bike it's really important to wear a helmet (however young or old!).... we can always replace a damaged helmet but cannot replace your head!

What other facts did you learn today? Have a chat with the children to find out more.

  • French and Spanish tuition for Year R available

Mon 31 Oct 2016 Miss Rogers
We are now able to offer French and Spanish tuition to our Year R pupils.
These sessions are run by external teachers in school during lunchtime 12.30 - 1.00 pm.  Each session is £3 per week payable termly.
If you feel this is something your child would be interested in, please contact the Admin Office.
Please note, it will be your child's responsibility to remember to attend their session after they have had their lunch, unfortunately the tutor will not have the time to collect the children as she has another lesson with the KS2 children from 12.00 to 12.30 pm.
There will be a limit on the amount of children who will be able to attend the sessions, so if we have a high demand, we will have to consider children on a first come first served basis.
  • Forest School with Linguatastic

Fri 21 Oct 2016 Miss Lyddon

Linguatastic's Spanish pre-schoolers had a Forest School session at Great Binfields Primary School this morning. Miss Lyddon ran the session with adult helpers from Linguatastic. (Thank you from Miss Lyddon for your help and support) The pre-schoolers had great fun in our woodland areas exploring the woods, creating clay models, drawing with chalk, making  nature crowns or pictures and they even took their  "log dogs" for a walk!

  • En Guard!

Fri 21 Oct 2016 Mrs Shapland

The French warning to “be aware” should have prepared us for the transformation which overtook Pine class recently as they enjoyed an introduction to the sport of fencing. Over three sessions the children learned the basics of fencing etiquette and movement – but oh so much more! What a delight to see the many facets of learning unfold during the final lesson. We witnessed improved concentration and co-ordination, greater spatial awareness, and numerous unsolicited offers of assistance to help others to put on their tabard and helmet. It is no exaggeration to say that the adults present that morning including NAME the tutor, glowed with pride. Well done Pine Class, what a memorable experience.

  • Halloween Parties and Discos

Thu 20 Oct 2016 Miss Rogers

The children had a great time this evening, strutting their stuff. Their costumes looked brilliant and it was lovely seeing them socialising with their friends.

I'm sure you would like to join me in thanking our wonderful FOGB volunteers for their support - as without them, we wouldn't be able to run these fun events and raise funds for exciting whole school projects.
