Year 1 trip to Tesco
Wed 18 Nov 2015Yesterday Chestnut Class went on a trip to Tesco and today Oak Class went too! The children were able to learn about where their food has come from.
The trip involved:
- finding which country different foods have come from and locating these on a map
- finding items for a Mexican shopping list
- looking around the fridge, freezer and warehouse
- matching cheese names to their countries flags
- tasting different cheeses & breads
- handling fish
The children really enjoyed their trip and learnt a lot!
Thank you to Julie from Tesco for organising and to parent helpers who came with us.

Stubbington Day 2
Tue 17 Nov 2015We have had another fantastic (but extremely wet and windy) day at Stubbington. After a delicious cooked breakfast, the children enjoyed a morning of building shelters and orienteering. The Stubbington and Great Binfields staff were impressed with the children's determination and teamwork throughout these activities.
In the afternoon, the children went to hunt for animal tracks around the site. Following this, they built '5 Star mammal hotels' which were filled with hay, apple and seeds. These have been left in the woods overnight until we open them tomorrow morning. Hopefully we will have some 4 legged visitors staying in them!

Stubbington Day 1
Mon 16 Nov 2015The Year 6 children have had a fantastic first day at Stubbington. After a tour of the site, they took part in a variety of games and activities such as the 'Eggstreme Challenge'. This involved them earning tokens to buy materials to make a protective casing for an egg. The eggs were then catapulted to see how robust their design actually was. 3/4 of the eggs survived without any injuries. Unfortunately the final egg (Egg Sheeran) wasn't so lucky and cracked in a few places. It was no yoke!
This evening the children enjoyed a dinner of fish and chips followed by a wildlife talk.
They are looking forward to a jam packed day tomorrow where they will be building shelters and creating mammal hotels.
Take a look at some of our photos to see what we have been up to...

Victorians Play in a Day
Tue 03 Nov 2015Today Years 3 and 4 enjoyed working with Tree House Theatre Group as they learned about the plight of children in Victorian Workhouses. Ben, the actor who works with the children is absolutely brilliant and they learn so much about the period of history whilst having an enormous amount of fun.
Pictures will follow and I'm sure the children will be eager to tell their families all about it when they get home this evening.

Holly Class visit Tesco
Tue 20 Oct 2015On Tuesday 20th October Holly Class visited Tesco for a Farm to Fork workshop. We looked at the different symbols on food, especially the Fairtrade symbol. Julie for Tesco then took us to different parts of the shop and we learned all about where our food comes from. We had lots of fun, especially when we had to taste the chocolate buttons to see the difference between milk and white chocolate. At the end of the session we had a story about Kevin the giant who only ate one type of fish and sadly that fish eventually ran out. Following this story we tried some fish paste on crackers before learning to open a banana like a monkey. It was a wonderful afternoon and everyone learned something new. -
