Look what we received!!
Fri 27 Nov 2015I am very happy to present you all with this certificate. Thank you to all of you who regularly give to Great Binfields Primary School. Every little bit does indeed help to ensure that our children get he very best. Mrs Brookes has enjoyed getting our new books in the library - they have already proved to be very popular. -
Year 1s Fantastic Food Festival
Fri 27 Nov 2015Our year 1 children had an amazing morning tasting foods from an array of countries. I am very thankful to our Year 1 team, our volunteers and to our Emtas tutor (a tutor who supports a child in Year 1 who has English as an Additional Language) for making it that little bit extra special. The children were very brave and tasted all of the foods - many of which they loved. They also learned lots more about the chosen countries and learned some of their language too. A great day - another memory maker -
Year 5 trip to GIST
Tue 24 Nov 2015On Tuesday, Year 5 were invited by GIST to take part in Road Safety Awareness week. When we arrived we were greeted by two of the lorry drivers who start work at 2 in the morning! We then learnt about being safe next to a road especially when lorries are passing. Did you know a GIST lorry weighs 44 tonnes? That's the same as 76 cows!
We then went down into the car park and had the opportunity to go in one of the lorries to show us what a driver can and can't see. We were even lucky enough to be given a GIST bag, with a pencil, sticker and keyring. We had a great time and will certainly remember to be more safe when we go out.

Year 2 travel back in time
Mon 23 Nov 2015On Friday, Year 2 travelled back to 1666 and visited coffee houses so that they could share their diaries about the Great Fire of London. Children had worked hard on their diaries, recounting the events of the fire and how they felt. They then visited the coffee house where they paid 1p to have a mug of hot chocolate and a biscuit whilst they read their diaries to each other. There were some great people who visited, including Samuel Pepys, Jane the maid and the Mayor of London to name but a few guests! Children enjoyed reading to each other and could then ask each other questions about how they felt witnessing this enormous catastrophe! -
Stubbington day 4 and 5
Fri 20 Nov 2015Day 4 at Stubbington involved lots of wet weather, sandy hands and Celtic chores. In the morning we trudged through puddles to the beach to explore the seashore. Although it was very wet and windy we had loads of fun looking for and collecting sea creatures, such as anemones, mussels and crabs. We then had a sand castle building competition. The sandcastles were superb and you could tell that the children had really thought about their designs. During the afternoon, we had the opportunity to go into the Roundhouse. In there, we were taken back in time to the Celtic era and found out about the past times of Celts. We dressed up in traditional clothes, were given Celt names and painted our faces to ready ourselves for battle! Once we came back from battle, we had a few chores to do, including: bracelet making, creating pots out of clay and deciphering a sentence that was written in the Celtic alphabet.
After our Celtic adventures, we had another chance to put our 'Mammal Hotels' out into the conservation area to see if we would have any little visitors. Then we practiced our house songs for one last time and enjoyed our final dinner before heading off to the S Factor! All of the houses sang fantastic songs with lots of enthusiasm and effort. The winning house was Foxes who won with a song they had come up with themselves!
Day 5 in Stubbington was our last. Once we stuffed our faces with a final Stubby breakfast we headed off to go and collect our 'Mammal Hotels'. 7 out of 15 doors were shut and we thought we were in luck! We were so excited to see that the first hotel we opened had a little mouse inside that Sam J and Rhys decided to name Mrs Furball. She was so small - her body measured 50mm and her tail 60mm! We then opened the other hotels only to discover a snail and 2 slugs munching on the food we had left to entice small mammals. When we got back to our dorms, we packed our bags with our damp and smelly clothes and went for our final lunch.
We had such an amazing time at Stubbington and everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The children challenged themselves further and really worked as a team to succeed in the activities! They definitely deserve a good rest this weekend!

For our Year 6 Parents
Fri 20 Nov 2015Dear Parents
Your children have had a marvellous time; learning new skills and solving problems as well as developing their resilience in wet weather!! They have all been a credit to our school and we are so proud of them. I'm looking forward to hearing all about their adventures next week.
I would like to thank Mrs Brookes, Mr Wood, Miss Lyddon, Miss Rendall, Miss Corcoran and Miss Collins for providing them with the most super experience - a memory maker. We are very lucky to have such dedicated staff members who go that extra mile for our children.
We are expecting them all back at 2.30pm today but we will text you once we are pretty sure they are on schedule as there is nothing worse than hanging around.
Finally your children will come back smelly with a bag full of disgustingly dirty clothes and will probably be a bit grotty after a week of full-on activity. I don't envy your washing machines this weekend and I'm sure many of your little stars will want an early night!
Happy weekend!

Maple Class Visit Tesco
Thu 19 Nov 2015Despite the wet weather Maple Class had a wonderful afternoon at Tesco today. The children learnt all about the different logos on food packaging and we had to spot these around the shop. We had to do a thumbs up if we saw the Fair Trade symbol and croak like a frog if we spotted the Rainforest logo, this was great fun. We visited the banana aisle; where we found out where bananas come from and what the different colours of bananas means. An interesting fact we discovered is that a bunch of bananas is known as a hand and a single one is called a finger. For most of us our favourite part was next, we got to taste chocolate! We had to close our eyes and see if we could tell the difference between milk chocolate and white chocolate. Everyone then headed to the fish counter, where we learnt the names of different fish and why it is important for us to eat a range of fish. Some of us were very brave and tasted some mackerel paste and we all opened a banana like a monkey. The trip ended with a story and we all luckily received a goodie bag to take home. A great learning experience for all for us and we are going to look out for the logos when we next go shopping.

Year 2 Library visit
Thu 19 Nov 2015Last Thursday Year 2 classes enjoyed a visit to Chineham Library. Whilst there, they were shown around the library; the librarians explained how to find different books and showed us all the other activities that were available at the library. Children enjoyed looking at a variety of books and completed some puzzles and activities too. It was great to see children bring along their library cards whilst also having some other children sign up to use the library in future. -
Year 2 Fire of London Day
Thu 19 Nov 2015On Tuesday, Year 2 spent the whole day learning about The Great Fire of London. They have loved learning about this topic, asking lots of questions and finding out lots of facts themselves. The children spent the day mapping the fire onto a current London map, creating a timeline, researching Tudor houses and then building their own! They even wrote a news article explaining what happened in the fire. Have a look at the pictures to see what the children got up to! -
Stubbington Day 3
Wed 18 Nov 2015We have had yet another brilliant day here at Stubbington. After breakfast we went straight to collect our 'Mammal Hotels' so see if we had any guests. Unfortunately we did not receive any visitors at our 'Mammal Hotels' last night, however we will be trying again tomorrow. We learnt some facts about foxes and then played Stubbington Fox. We had to be stealthy foxes and find clues around the conservation site, then we had to hide from Farmer Collins and Farmer Woods. If we were caught we were stamped with a skull and lost points.
Once we had lunch our next activity was EARTHQUAKE! This meant we had to have all the necessary equipment to help out during an earthquake and then in our teams we went the the EARTHQUAKE! obstacle course. Here we had to swing over lava, wade through the sewers and save our babies whilst holding on to our equipment!
After a tasty dinner we played Stubbington murder! We had to solve a murder mystery by checking the alibis of all the suspects. Tonight we are planning on going to the hide to see if we can spot any local wildlife including badgers and foxes.
