Bikeability Day 2
Tue 12 Sep 2017The Year 6 children ventured out onto the road to practise their road safety skills today. Particular manoeuvres included: making a U-turn in the road, how to make a safe start and stop and cycling past a stationary car. The children were very well behaved in our local community and the instructors were really impressed. Take a look at the photos to see them in action! -
Year 6 Bikeability
Mon 11 Sep 2017The Year 6 children had a fantastic first session of Bikeability today. They started off in the classroom learning facts about the Highway Code. After this, they went onto the playground to learn how to check their bikes correctly and how to signal right and left. Tomorrow, they will be venturing onto the roads to test out some of their new knowledge! -

It is lovely having our wonderful children back in school...
Wed 06 Sep 2017As much as we all love our summer break and the chance to be free of routines... our children and staff have come back happy, refreshed and eager to start the new school this week.
Our children have impressed our staff with how quickly they have settled back into the throws of school. It certainly has been lovely seeing them catching up and playing with their friends during playtimes and lunchtimes.
Check out the photos of them below. They really are caring, sharing and playing fair

School Meals Update
Sun 03 Sep 2017Dear Everyone,
I hope you are all well and that your children feel rested and now excited about returning to school.
We have over the summer break, had our final 2 phases of building works to make us into a fully fledged 2 form entry primary school. The two temporary classrooms have been removed and our main school kitchen has been extended. Mr Quilter, Mrs Worgan and I have been on tender-hooks for the past three weeks as there has been various problems during the kitchen upgrade and as a result the deadline for the contractors to finish has been stretched week on week which has been highly frustrating for us. Hampshire Property Management Services have been very apologetic on the contractors behalf but unfortunately this does mean that our kitchen is not operational for Monday and Tuesday of next week.
So the plan is as follows:
Monday 4th September - another local school is cooking our school meals for us as they are on Inset Day themselves. So tomorrow the children will be choosing from the normal HC3S menu. http://www3.hants.gov.uk/hc3s/hc3s-primary/primarymenu.htm . These meals will be shipped in to our school.
Tuesday 5th September - as all schools in the east of Basingstoke are back for the start of term, we will have to have a packed lunch option instead. Children can choose from tuna or cheese lunch bags. They will need to tell their teacher their choice tomorrow morning so orders can be processed before the end of the school day. If your child does not like these two options then you will have to unfortunately provide your child with a packed lunch for this day. Sorry if the latter is the case but we only have the two options open to us.
I have been promised that everything will be certified and operational by Tuesday PM. I hope they keep this promise but I will of course let you know if anything changes as soon as I know. If you do not hear from us - everything has gone to plan.
We are very much looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Gates open at 8.30am and our teaching staff will be greeting you at their classroom doors from 8.40 sharp through to 8.50am.
I am so sorry that this has happened at the start of a new year but I hope that you can work with us over the next couple of days...we will then be free of extension building work forever - yippee!!
Kind regards,
Jules Rogers
Headteacher

Robin and The Sherwood Hoodies KS2 Production
Fri 21 Jul 2017We were all in for a treat this week when our KS2 children all clubbed together to put on a tremendous production. The acting was superb - you got into the roles, so so well and we all especially the corny jokes which were knitted in throughout the evening. The dances really added a super touch to the whole play and the choir were simply wonderful. You really did belt the words - you all sounded so professional.
We are so proud of you all and it was a fitting end to a wonderful year at GBP.
Thanks for coming to watch everyone and I hope you like the photographs below.

Year One Outdoor Week
Mon 17 Jul 2017Last week, the year ones were lucky enough to have the scouts come into school to join us for our outdoor week. All of the children got the chance to do outdoor cooking (sausages and marshmallows!), tracking around Chineham and also shelter building. When the scouts weren't in, we also did Minibeast hunting and riddle writing, leaf threading, sketching our woodland and much more. It was really great to see the children trying something new, taking risks and working together as a team. Once again, we are really grateful to the scouts for giving up their time to work with us.
Have a look at the pictures to see what we got up to!

Friends of Great Binfields Annual Summer BBQ Event
Sat 15 Jul 2017What a marvellous evening it was! The new courtyard was a fitting backdrop for an evening alfresco! The sun was shining and it was marvellous seeing so many of you enjoying the events on offer. It was also great for the children to meet Jessie, the Cowgirl too!
Thank you to our wonderful committee who put this super event together. It was enjoyed by all. Thanks also to our staff team who assisted The Friends once again. It was hugely appreciated.
Finally a huge thank you to all of our parents who came and supported the evening. You are all stars as by contributing you are making a real difference to the educational experiences for all of our children at GBP.
We eagerly await to see what we have raised and we will of course let you all know and in addition, we will be letting you know what our Friends will be fundraising for next academic year too.

Year 3 Hazel Class - Night at The Museum
Tue 11 Jul 2017Another smashing day down here in Sussex. We even managed to avoid the rain until 4pm which is fabulous considering the Weald and Downland Museum is an open air one! The children have been superb - what an amazing Year 3 cohort we have. They are full of questions, many have a super general knowledge and they are willing to give new challenges a go. The children have had the opportunity to mill flour, build a roof using terracotta tiles, have walked a few miles, been involved in a torchlit treasure hunt, built a space station for Tim Peakes and created some fab space pictures using chalk and collage too. The kids are all very happy but getting tired. They have been well fed and watered...and later on they get to kip together in the Tim Peake Exhibition Hall... how cool is that?!!
Hope you enjoy the photographs. I will upload a few at a time as the wifi is a tad patchy.
I hope you enjoy the
