Year 3 Night at the Museum Hawthorn Class
Mon 10 Jul 2017Your children have been amazing Hawthorn Class Parents. They have been an absolute joy - it has been incredible how much they have taken in today. We first went to The Weald and Downland Museum where they learned about how the houses were made and how folk survived in the past. The workshop was very interesting and the children got to mill flour, saw a guy start a fire using flint stones and learned about wattle and daub.
Next on to Chichester where the children went to the cathedral just before evening song. By this time the kids were hungry again so we took them to McDonalds for tea where they each ordered their own Happy Meal and drink. At just after half 6 we made our way to The Novium Museum where the exciting evening activities took place. Torch lit treasure hunt, junk modelling and a crafty activity before settling down to bed for a story.
The kids were shattered and I'm here now listening to the snores of the kids and Mr Wood!!! I've just realised that I forgot to ask Miss Lyddon for her camera card so you have only got my snaps to enjoy but I will upload hers to tomorrow as soon as I can.
We will let you know when we are back in school. Hope the updates have been useful and reassuring for you all.

Year 1 trip to the Lookout Discovery Centre
Thu 06 Jul 2017Yesterday Year 1 went on their class trip to the Lookout Discovery Centre in Bracknell. The children and staff had a great day which included going into the woodlands in the mornings to complete challenges such as identifying trees, using natural resources to create a picture and hunting for mini beasts. In the afternoon, they had the chance to explore inside the science exhibition and go into the different areas including woodland and water. light and colour, forces and movement and body and perception. It was a great way to round off our Into the Woods topic!

Year 3 Stone Age day
Thu 06 Jul 2017Yesterday Year 3 had a fantastic Stone Age Day! It was an opportunity for the children to dress up and share some of the experiences of these pre-historic hunter gatherers. The activities included: stew cooking on an open fire in the woods, cave painting art, making caves and creating their own Stonehenge using biscuits. Have a look at some of our photos from the day. -
Eggars Art Day
Thu 06 Jul 2017Last week, a selection of children from Great Binfields were invited to take part in a community Art day at Eggars Secondary School, funded by the The Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) Trust Fund. The children enjoyed a range of Art activities, which included using everyday objects to create prints and patterns in clay, which they then filled with plaster. Later they took the clay away from the plaster and were impressed that they were left with a plaster slab with their prints on. They also carried out activities with art specialist teachers, which included drawing using a range of techniques and using foam to create prints - which they particularly enjoyed having the chance to get a bit messy!
The children also got to meet with Mill Farm and loved petting the animals. Some of the children were slightly anxious at first and hadn't touched animals before, so it was great to see them growing in confidence and enjoying petting the animals by the end of the day.

Induction Day Success
Wed 05 Jul 2017I know that change can be daunting for some but change is good - that's what we promote at our school. We change our classes each year so the children get to work with different children and different adults. It helps them develop their social skills, opens up their circles of friends and develops our children's tolerance as well as understand that different people have different lives, cultures, religions and issues too.
Yesterday our children had their Induction Day - where the children from 11 of our 12 classes got to meet their new class teachers in their new classrooms. Sycamore Class went to their new classroom but will meet their new teacher, Miss Canfield on the 14th July. Our Year 6s had Miss Grainger for the day as of course they will be moving on to secondary school soon.
All of our children made a great first impression and it was lovely seeing them all engrossed in their activities and getting to know their new Year Group Team.
I hope they came home with positive news - and if they are a little anxious still, that's only natural. Within a short period of time in September, they will settle in to their new surroundings.

Year 5 and 6 Viking Day
Mon 03 Jul 2017Today, the year 5 and 6 children looked a little more scary than usual, dressed up as Vicious Vikings for our Viking day. During the morning, each Viking made their own shield and jewellery and even helped to cook a Viking stew. This was then followed by a fun-filled afternoon of eating the stew and taking part in a battle on the field. A great day was had by all - take a look at the photos to see how much fun was had! -
Year 2 Outdoor Week update
Fri 30 Jun 2017Year 2 have continued to be busy outdoors this week. On Wednesday children were out identifying which trees grow in our woodland, recognising the leaves which link to class doors. Throughout the rest of the week the children have been great at noticing and discussing similarities and differences of the leaves they have found, making suggestions as to which tree it could have come from. Children also went on a journey around the woodlands in order to create a journey crown. As they walked around they had to collect items to put into their crown; some of the designs were very adventurous!
Yesterday it was Sycamore's turn to go to the Scout Hut. They certainly enjoyed their day; they collected wood in order to build a fire so that they could cook sausages and marshmallows. They also had to persevere and challenge themselves when climbing the rock climbing wall. Despite a few 'I can't do its' everyone continued to try and with every turn got a step higher on the wall. It was lovely to see the children encouraging one another on, being supportive if they didn't succeed the first time and seeing other children come out of their comfort zone or thrive from the challenge.
Everyone (adults included!) should certainly be tired by the end of this week; it has certainly been a busy but fun and memorable one.
Have a look at the pictures to see what a great week it has been.

The start of Year 2 Outdoor Week
Wed 28 Jun 2017Yesterday Year 2 began their Outdoor Week. During this week Year 2 complete a variety of activities outdoors in order to build life skills such as cooperation, dealing with, and resolving challenges and being resilient. Sycamore class worked in the woods yesterday building places for a chosen toy to live in. They had to think carefully about how they created human and physical features within their environment. Two groups even joined forces to create 'Nightlight City' where street lighting made from pine cones ensured all the toys were safe in the town at night! Other groups had ramps for fire trucks to get out, building their house by a river so people had access to water. Whilst Sycamore were in the woods Willow Class walked to the Scout Hut to have a fun-filled day cooking on a fire and climbing up the climbing wall. Whilst it was challenging most children persevered and were very proud of themselves when they were able to ring the bell at the top!
Keep an eye out for what else will be happening this week. We will be outdoors, whatever the weather!
