Early Years Visit Hillier Gardens
Tue 27 Jun 2017Today was another extremely exciting day for everyone in Early Years, it was our end of year school trip. This year we visited the fantastic Hillier Gardens in Romsey. The children arrived excitedly to school and were very eager to get on the coach and set for our day full of adventure. Once we arrived at Hillier Gardens, we were greeted by members of staff who would be spending the day with us. The children got to explore the stunning gardens, looking at the wonderful flowers, trees and sculptures. The children also participated in a variety of activities; using nets to catch mini beasts, (the most popular catch being the Green Capsid), working in teams to build shelters and pond dipping. Everyone also got to visit the enormous pond which was full of life, including a massive koi and lots of caterpillars on the fence around it. We went on a nature walk where we saw lots of bumble bees who were drinking the nectar from the flowers. A highlight for lots of us was going through the bamboo tunnel and walking over the wobbly bridge. We were fortunate enough to be able to see some moths up close, some of which were huge, such as the privet hawk moth, and many others that were beautifully coloured.
A super day was had by all and we even got to meet the resident cat!
Your child will be bringing home a leaflet all about Hillier Gardens this week, which contains a discount voucher. It is a super place which is definitely worth visiting, if you have the chance.

It is Competitive Sports Day
Fri 23 Jun 2017Thank you to all of you who came and supported our children during the competitive element of Sports Day today. We are looking forward to the vertical grouping team sports on Monday. The children certainly lived our 'tree values' today and showed great determination, resilience and cooperation. We had lots of team spirit too both by our children and our visitors. I could see that you all enjoyed it.
Watch this space to see which team has won - we will be announcing this on Tuesday during our assembly after the team games have taken place.
A huge thank you children for trying your hardest to do well today and a thank you to our marvellous staff team who have as usual, rallied together to make to work.
We will upload lots of photos - I just need to edit them.

Year 6 Graduation
Thu 22 Jun 2017Today our year 6 pupils enjoyed a very exciting day at Winchester University.
The morning was spent taking a tour round the university, taking part in a quiz and playing sitting down volleyball. After lunch, the children got changed into their graduation robes and were joined by their families to celebrate the end of their time at primary school. Take a look at the photos to see how smart they all looked! Huge congratulations to all of the year 6 pupils - they have all been super stars this year!

Basingstoke Primary Schools Musical Concert at the Anvil
Wed 21 Jun 2017Our annual Schools Anvil Concert was held yesterday and this evening. A large group of our children made us all incredibly proud. Our choir, dancers and orchestra members were simply amazing - incredible in fact! We know that this will be an event that they will remember for a long, long time. Lots of our staff team went along as did our children‘s parents and wider families. We were all blown away by the quality and I have received so many positive comments since. I really do hope that more children in our school will want to join the choir, dance club and perhaps even the orchestra in the future.
Well done to everyone concerned and a huge thank you to HMS and BPSM staff and volunteers - you have worked so hard and should be so proud. A special thank you to Mrs Irons, Miss Khan and Mrs Osborne for rehearsing with our children - as usual you and the children have surpassed our expectations.

Year 4 Roman Day
Mon 19 Jun 2017Today was Roman Day in Year 4 & we even had the Roman weather to go with it! The children looked absolutely fab in their outfits and really got into the activities. In the morning, we learnt about mosaics, finding out abut why the Romans had them and how they were made. We then created our own using coloured card - the outcomes were great! In the afternoon, we looked at Roman and Celt shields, thinking about the symbolism of the designs. We then designed our own, using metallic paint to add vibrant colour. We have had a great day and look forward to learning more about Celts & Romans in the next few weeks. -

Early Years - Our Dads' Afternoon
Fri 16 Jun 2017On Friday 16th June Early Years had a Dads' Afternoon to celebrate Fathers' Day. We invited all of our dads to come and join us in school for the whole afternoon. During the afternoon there were several activities we could choose from including a picture hunt in the woods, making a photo frame (thankfully there were no injuries), Frisbee making, playing on the woodland trail, portrait drawing, sharing stories and making newspaper towers - this very quickly became competitive among the grown ups! We all had lots of fun and loved having our dads in school.

Year 6 Costello Trip
Thu 15 Jun 2017Yesterday afternoon, the children who will be attending Costello in September took part in a transition afternoon at the school. It was really lovely to see how settled all of the children looked - the visit definitely helped to answer any of their questions and worries about starting a brand new school in September. It was also great to see some of our previous Great Binfields pupils who are now in year 7 and acted as fantastic ambassadors for Costello!
