  • Art Festival Exhibition

Fri 22 May 2015 Miss Rogers

I am sure all of you who were able to attend are in agreement that our first ever art exhibition was impressive. We are absolutely amazed at what all of our children have achieved this week - the quality of art was spectacular and the actual effort the children put in over the whole week was phenomenal.  We will definitely make this a yearly event changing the theme each time. Next year we will ask the children to vote for their favoured theme as they seemed keen on doing this.

It was particularly lovely being able to share their efforts with you and your feedback was brilliant - thank you. It was a mammoth task but our super staff team pulled it altogether just before 2.30pm proving yet again their commitment to our school. They worked their socks off all week - staying late most nights to present the children's wonderful pieces.

The only downside was that we had to take it all down before we went home on Friday. Still lots of photos were taken so we will make a photo album of the event.

Many of you were interested in having your children's work. We will be able to send it home for a small voluntary contribution. All proceeds from this will go towards another exciting project for your children.

  • Rugby Success

Thu 21 May 2015 Miss Rogers

Yesterday was the Year 5/6 tournament at Overton. Most Basingstoke schools went and our children had a great time despite being rained on at lunchtime!!! Our team played incredibly well - winning 2 and drawing 1 of their six matches. We were part of a really strong pool and the children battled on throughout. When we did lose the margin was really small.

We did come away with fantastic news though. Our school WON this years' Rugby League....we are so, so. so proud of them!!! Our trophy is now sitting proudly by our Sports Day Cup. It just goes to show that practice does make you better as our Rugby teams have been practicing every week since the start of the academic year. Thank you to Miss Grainger and Mr Wood who have been training you. They have thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for next season.

Our Year 3/4 tournament is being held next month so please cross your fingers for our team. They too have been practicing with me since September - I have certainly seen them progress so I'm hoping they will do well. Mr Wood is also joining us for extra practice before we head off to Overton again.

  • Art Festival Update

Wed 20 May 2015 Miss Rogers

We are over half way through our Art Festival Week and the children have been amazing. The quality of work is phenomenal - we have so, so many budding artists and sculptors! The children are really developing their skills and persevering so well.

Please do try and make time to come and visit our exhibition this coming Friday at 3.15pm-4pm as it will be a lovely chance for you to celebrate your children's achievements. It won't be a polished exhibition as of course we will not have time to mount everything but I hope you will agree that the children have put so much effort in.

  • Art Festival Week at GBP - The Great Bristish Woodland

Mon 18 May 2015 Miss Rogers

Today was the launch day of our first ever Art Festival week, which we hope will be an annual event. This year the theme is The Great British Woodland which fits in beautifully with our class names, our woodland etc of course!!

The children have been so busy, created some fantastic art pieces  and have been a credit to themselves as they have worked in other classrooms so, so well. The children have experienced different mediums of art such as printing, painting, weaving, textiles and collage today by visiting different classrooms which have been set up as individual studios. The children have very much developed their art skills as well as some other key skills too, such as cooperation and resilience.

‘I loved my weaving today  – I like art’ said Hafi from EYFS.

Later on in the week, some children will experience sculpture, up-cycling a piece of furniture, photography and cake decorating plus lots more - all with a woodland theme of course!! Keep in touch about what the children create by reading Latest News each day.

  • SATs treat at the Fun House

Fri 15 May 2015 Mrs Hill
Well done to all our Year 6s who worked ever so hard this week during their SATs tests. Miss Rogers and all the Year 6 staff are extremely proud of their efforts and positive attitudes towards their assessments. We knew they could do it and they really did shine. As a reward, they enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon at the Fun House. As you can see by the photos, they all had an amazing time! Thank you to the staff at The Fun House - we appreciate your support.
  • Quality Home Learning at GBP

Thu 14 May 2015 Miss Rogers
I just wanted to share how impressed I have been with the children's home learning recently. Thank you to all of our families for your support. It is clear that a lot of effort is being made. The creativity has been phenomenal. We share our children's learning each week during our Merit Assembly and it is always lovely seeing and hearing how the children have been inspired. I will add more photographs early next week to share with you some of the quality responses we are receiving. The photograph below shows Lemmy's super topic work . He loves his art and he did this with his Grandma. Oh and I must add that this was extra... exceptional!!
  • Year 6 have breakfast together

Mon 11 May 2015 Miss Rogers
Our Year 6 children enjoyed having breakfast together this morning. They were obviously a tad nervous but we are sure they will do their best and 'shine' throughout their assessment week. I am sure you will all join me in wishing them the very best.
  • Forest Schools for our first group of Year 1

Fri 08 May 2015 Miss Rogers

Mr Wood and I thought the group we had today were super. They were all very keen and collaborated well. It was very interesting to see which children took the lead and we chuckled as we listened to each group as they created their masterpieces!

Today the children created their own imaginative castles to house their clay kings, queens, princes, princesses and dragons!! They were very proud of their finished creations and they evaluated each others' efforts really well towards the end.

Thank you children for trying so hard and we are glad that you really enjoyed it.

  • Silver Medal Winners!

Thu 07 May 2015 Miss Grainger
On Tuesday a group of eight year 5/6 children, 4 boys and 4 girls, represented Great Binfields in 'The Quad Kids Athletics Competition' at The Vyne School. Each child had to compete in four individual events; standing long jump, the howler throw, a 75m sprint and a 600m run. They scored points according to their times and distances. The athletes battled hard against the windy weather conditions to compete against seven other schools. Their points were then added together as a team. All the children performed brilliantly. A massive well done to Hugh for throwing the second furthest in the whole competition and for winning his heat (33.10m), Isla for running the 600m in 2 minutes 19 seconds, winning her heat and coming second overall, and Jett who actually jumped the furthest in the whole competition (1.91m) for the boys! After coming second in the relay, our points were then added together to an amazing total of 1243 to claim a silver medal. I am incredibly proud of all the children who worked so hard as a team and represented the school perfectly.
