  • Outdoor Week and the Climbing Wall for Year 2

Thu 30 Jun 2016 Mrs Barnhouse

Year 2 have had a busy week during their Outdoor Week and all children have now completed their climbing wall days. What a great time they had! It was lovely to see children challenge themselves and want to face their fears and give something a real go. Although not everyone managed to get to the top everyone succeeded in the challenge we gave them. Other children surprised us and whizzed up the walls over and over again, loving the fear factor! We certainly appreciated the Scouts giving up their time to help Year 2 (and the adults!) challenge themselves.

Other activities this week have included creating journey sticks so they can retell where they have been, creating fairy houses in the woods and completing multiplication challenges in the woods using the resources around us to make arrays. It has certainly been a busy, fun-filled week, giving children the opportunity to work together and problem solve in different settings.

Have a look at the pictures below to see what else we've been up to!

  • INSET DAYS Ahead

Wed 29 Jun 2016 Miss Rogers

Please remember that we have our Inset Days Next week. They are on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th July.

During these two days we will be working on creating our new action plans for the year which are closely linked to our whole school improvement areas. In addition to this, we have an input from two of our teachers on Writing and DT. There's lots to pack in so we will be busy, busy, busy!

  • Climbing Challenges for our Year 2s

Wed 29 Jun 2016 Miss Rogers

This week is our Year 2s Outdoor Week and they were given the superb opportunity of using Chineham Scouts Climbing Wall at their Scout Hut. Each class has marched to and from the hut (in some cases in the rain), played various team games and then had a go on the wall. It has been amazing seeing some of our children scamper up with no fear at all. A few children needed a little encouragement but everyone really did give it their best  and have impressed their teachers with their courage and determination.

Thank you to the Scout volunteers who have given up their free time once again to assist the children in our school. You are great friends of our school and you really do help us provide some super activities for our children. They are very lucky indeed!

  • Top Notch Alice In Wonderland Performance

Wed 29 Jun 2016 Miss Rogers

Our KS2 children should be extremely pleased with themselves as they have pulled off two brilliant performances over the last couple of nights. This year, their play was Alice in Wonderland and boy was it good! The acting and accents were superb. The singing was clear, expressive and a good volume throughout and the dances were creative as well as great fun to watch! It looked so professional with the superb costumes, make up and props too. It really was an impressive performance and you have made us all proud children.

Thank you to our fab KS2 team who helped pulled this altogether - like usual everyone has chipped in to ensure that the children were set up to succeed. A huge thank you must also go to our parents too as they have helped our kids to learn their lines and songs as well as help our children with their superb costumes.

Hope you enjoy the pictures below.

  • Year One - Look Out Centre!

Wed 29 Jun 2016 Miss Hanafin and Miss Finnimore

Yesterday, Year One had a great day out at the Look Out Discovery Centre. Inside the centre there were loads of really interesting Science activities for us to try. The children really loved the building area as they took on the role of designers and builders. They also got to explore water, light, plants and much more. They were very excited and loved having a go at everything. Outside the centre, we did an explorers trail and were able to do some great activities that were based on much of what we have been learning about in Science - identifying plants and trees, exploring materials, life cycles and more. It was lovely to see the children so confident and enthusiastic about their learning. Have a look at the lovely photos from the day.

  • Our Cricket team are through to the final!

Mon 27 Jun 2016 Miss Rogers
Well done to our super cricket team who have made it through to the county finals which are being held in Winchester next week. They played brilliantly today and have impressed their coaches Mr Wood and Miss Grainger. Their determination and effort has led to a silver medal and of course the group ticket to the finals. We wish them luck next week. We will keep you posted of how they do.
  • Sports Day Fun!

Fri 24 Jun 2016 Miss Rogers

The children worked so well together today as they made their way around the 10 different sports activities on offer. Our four teams put so much effort in whilst encouraging each other to do the best they possibly could. It is important for our children to push themselves and they certainly did that as well as show some other values too - determination, resilience etc.

Thank you to all of our school community who came to watch the children. We are grateful for your support. The weather was ok in the end wasn't it...a slight shower didn't put us off - we still soldiered on! Thanks also to our super staff team who assisted with the organisation and the running of this event. Like usual, everyone pulled together.

We will add the scores up and will share which team has won on Monday morning.

  • School Council Host Portway Junior SC

Wed 22 Jun 2016 Miss Rogers

Today our School Council hosted Portway Junior's School Council as they came for a Learning Walk around our school. Their school is based Andover and our school visited them back last year.

Our School Council did a presentation; outlining their work this year to help improve our school. Portway then joined us for playtime and both School Councils played a few extra games afterwards. Next was a tour of our school before finally meeting up for a debrief before heading back to Andover.

It is great that we are networking with other schools. It is hoped that we will magpie from each other.

Thank you for coming over Portway Junior. We hoped that you enjoyed your visit.

  • Year 3/4 'Mini Sports Day'

Tue 21 Jun 2016 Miss Wright
As part of Olympic week Year 3/4 had their own sports morning today, taking part in competitive events ahead of our school sports day on Friday. Our races included running, skipping, hurdles, javelin and a long distance run. We were really impressed with the children's effort, perseverance and team spirit with many of them cheering on their classmates.
  • Our Anvil Concert Singers and dancers are getting ready

Tue 21 Jun 2016 Miss Rogers

Well their final rehearsal is today and our staff and children are certainly getting a little nervous. It is a huge show after all!

Basingstoke Primary Schools Music is presenting 'The World Inside My Book'. Lots of our staff team are going tonight and the other half and myself are going tomorrow. I can't wait - with the effort you have put in, I'm sure we will all be blown away. You all deserve to do so well and enjoy the experience!
