  • Merry Christmas children

Fri 21 Dec 2018 Ms Rogers

    Dear Children,

It is nearly time for us to close our school doors and gates until January 8th so we can all get ready for the Christmas break that is around the corner. This is a time where we can be with our families. I hope you are all really excited as I am certainly looking forward to spending time with my loved ones as well as some of my old friends too.

I’m sure you will join me in wishing the staff and volunteers here at Great Binfields a wonderful, well earned restful holiday. They have worked so hard this term (especially being an 8 week term) and they are very much all ready for a break!

I will be thinking of you all getting very excited on Christmas Eve. I wonder what Father Christmas will bring you all? Remember (from our assemblies and school learning) to spare a thought for those children and adults who are less fortunate than us. As unfortunately for some people, Christmas is a sad time where they feel very lonely.

We must also not forget the true meaning behind the Christian festival of Christmas. Our EYFS, KS1 children and Mrs Lowe at Church helped remind us all about the Christmas story so please think back to these plays and the service as we are all unwrapping our presents on Christmas morning.

Have lots of fun everyone and Happy New Year. I hope that 2019 is going to be happy year for you. I’m hoping 2019 is going to be a good year for us all at GBP with lots of new learning experiences to look forward to.

I will look forward to seeing you all back in school on Tuesday 8th January as we have an Inset Day on the 7th January.

    With the warmest of wishes,

    Ms Rogers

  • Pantomime comes to Great Binfields

Tue 18 Dec 2018 Miss Lyddon

    " It's behind you"

M and M Productions visited Great Binfields this morning and entertained all of the children (and staff) with this year's Pantomime - 'Beauty and the Beast'.  Great fun was had by all - the staff, children and actors! Lots of singing, dancing and joining in parts, which entertained us until lunchtime. Thank you for a great morning M and M Productions and Merry Christmas.

  • Relating – Connect with People

Tue 18 Dec 2018 Ms Rogers

Feeling connected to people is very important for our happiness – even if we feel we are shy! This doesn’t mean we have to get on with everyone, but having at least a few people that we can trust implicitly and can share things with matters for our happiness. This may include members of our family and our close friends. We can learn skills to help us build good connections, to help us feel cared for and be able to care for others too.

Quick start: Teaching our children to learn how to listen well to others is a great foundation to build good relationships. It is a quick skill that you can practice with them straight away.

When someone speaks to your child, encourage them to:

STOP what they are doing and give their full attention to the speaker.

LOOK at them and smile in a friendly way.

LISTEN carefully to what the speaker has said and how they say it.

WAIT until the speaker has finished before your child replies. When the speaker has spoken,  your child should be encouraged to ask one or two questions to show that they are interested. This can be modelled by adults for the children to parrot talk initially.

Being a careful listener shows that you care! We practice these skills in school and the staff will continue to role-model this. Please can you encourage your children to practice this at home with you too.

I have popped this update alongside some curious conversations and interview a friend/family member questions activities below, for your children to ask someone visiting over the Christmas period.

  • Great Binfields Netball Match Against Tadley Primary School

Mon 17 Dec 2018 Miss Lyddon
On Monday 17th December, the Great Binfields Year 5/6 netball team played their second home match of the season and this time it was against Tadley Primary School. This time we played a 5 a-side game, so other team members had a chance of playing in different positions. The final score was a draw ... 4-4. Well done to both teams and thank you for Tadley Primary School for coming to Great Binfields for the match.
  • Year 3 Listen to Me - Samba

Fri 14 Dec 2018 Ms Rogers

The children have progressed so well over the last term and yesterday they showcased their learning with a real life audience. Over the past term, our children have experimented with the different samba instruments - most of which are unpitched to create different rhythms. Not only that they have developed their cultural understanding as they have watched clips of samba bands from Brazil perform but the children have also learned about pitch, tempo (including the Italian names for the different speeds) and structure too.

It was a delight to hear the different rhythms and for some the children sang alongside too. It was also great seeing the children's concentration and determination shine through as well.

Thank you to our parents and grandparents who attended - it really does mean a lot to our children and gives them a real purpose for their learning.

  • Lights Camera Action Round 2!

Thu 13 Dec 2018 Ms Rogers

  • Lights, Camera, Action.... what an incredible show!!

Wed 12 Dec 2018 Ms Rogers

I know it doesn't take me much these days to get emotional when I beaming with pride but my goodness me.... our KS1 children were absolutely incredible this morning when they performed their Christmas Play called 'Lights Camera, Action!'. The songs were fabulous and very catchy...although very difficult to learn I imagine. The acting and dancing was superb too - so well choreographed and the audience laughed so much. It was great seeing the children go into role so well - watch out Craig, Bruno, Shirley and Darcee.... our children are after your jobs!

I hope our audience this morning loved it as much as I did and if you are coming tomorrow, you are in for a real treat!! It is incredible how they have all grown in confidence.

Check out the photos below - they all look adorable!

  • It's music to our ears!

Mon 10 Dec 2018 Ms Rogers

Music like The Arts in our school, is becoming a real strength. Check out the pictures taken just in the last week… it is great to see how proud the children are of their achievements. It is fabulous to hear how they have progressed since the beginning of the school year and how happy this music throughout school makes us all feel too.

  • Choir in the Festive Spirit at Tescos

Mon 10 Dec 2018 Ms Rogers

This morning our choir did us proud by singing their hearts out at Tesco. A tradition which we have upheld for some years now. We sang a range of traditional carols and Christmas songs as well as some more modern festive Christmas songs too. The children certainly did themselves proud whilst raising funds for the Tesco Christmas Toy Appeal too.  Thank you to all of our mums, dads, Grandparents and cousins who came to support us too. It was hugely appreciated.

  • There is no such word as can't!

Mon 10 Dec 2018 Ms Rogers

As part of our on-going work on Growth Mindset, my assembly was based on the 'There is no such word as can't' today. A small number of our pupils who are tiring as it is the end of term, have been showing signs of a fixed mind set of late and have said 'They can't' when embarking on everyday challenges set here at school...not just in lessons but also during their social times too.

As part of the assembly this morning, I shared the following 2 clips (see links below) which the children were absolutely astonished by and both generated a lot of discussion. At the end, many children asked if I could send the links home so they could share how wonderful the 2 different people were.....so here are the links for you all.  Anything is possible if we pop our mind to it!
