Fri 28 Nov 2014 Miss Rogers

Thank you to our super children who helped raise funds during the Poppy Appeal. Together we raised £79.11 for the cause. With this help, The Royal British legion will be able to help with their vital welfare and benevolent work.  Perhaps you could go on to their website to find out more.

  • Craft Club Fun!

Fri 28 Nov 2014 Miss Rogers

We have many exciting extra-curricular clubs here at Great Binfields Primary School and it is great to see our children grow in confidence during these sessions, having fun and also sharpening those vital social skills too.

This week I have popped into our two Craft Clubs and both times they were busy beavering away, making Christmas decorations and Christmas gift bags.

Thank you to our teachers and parent helpers who help to run these clubs - we really do appreciate the time and effort you put in to ensure the children get lots from the sessions planned.

  • Well done Jaden - a super star!

Fri 28 Nov 2014 Miss Rogers

We were all very proud of Jaden today as we learned that he did a very brave and sensible thing to help his mum yesterday evening. His mum had an accident in the kitchen and fainted (she is ok now). Jaden made sure his brother was safe and popped next door to his neighbour's house to raise the alarm.

All of our KS2 children received First Aid Training by an external agency this half term and part of the course was all about 'What to do in an emergency' and our visit from the Fire service who worked with Years 1 and 2 also touched upon this.

It might be an idea to talk to your children about what they should do in an emergency when at home, so they are clear of what they can and can not do.

  • Children in Need Success

Wed 26 Nov 2014 Miss Rogers

Sorry for not sharing this news with you all sooner, but we are pleased to announce that we raised £372.62 for Children In Need when the children came in non-school uniform a couple of Fridays ago.

Well done everybody - thank you for your support!

  • Keeping our Teeth Healthy!

Wed 26 Nov 2014 Mrs Berry
On Tuesday this week Sycamore and Willow class were lucky enough to have a visit from two dental nurses from the South Ham dental clinic. Lauren talked to the children about teeth and how important it is to make good choices about food and drink. She suggested that the children only had a fizzy drink on their birthdays! While this was not received too well the children all loved the mini tube of toothpaste and stickers the nurses gave them!
  • Pupil of the Week News

Fri 21 Nov 2014 Miss Rogers

Who received Pupil of the Week last Friday?

Each week this will be posted in the Children's section.

Well done to the children who impressed their teachers and LSAs this time.

Next week it could be you if you go 'that extra mile' with your learning!

  • Fire Crew visit

Thu 20 Nov 2014 Mrs Barnhouse
On Thursday, the fire service came to visit Years 1 and 2. What a great day we had, whilst also learning some serious messages! Dave and Steve the Firemen were very impressed with how much we knew about staying safe and what we would do in case of a fire. In the morning we all met in the hall to meet the firemen. Did you know it only took Steve less than 10 seconds to get into his fire kit? They have to get changed so quickly because time is important when being called to a job. We were very impressed! We were shown what a smoke alarm looks like and most of us recognised these from being in our own homes. We were taught to 'poke an adult, then they poke the smoke alarm.' I wonder how many children went home to do this? Throughout the day each class then had a group session where we were read a story about what to do if we were burnt. We also played a game about staying safe when out in public, including how to safely cross roads and the importance of wearing safety gear such as seatbelts and helmets. The best bit was when we got to go in a real fire engine and one person in each group was allowed to drive the engine! We then rushed outside to put out a fire with the fire hose. Even some of the adults got to have a go! I think we have a few fire officers in the making here at Great Binfields! A super day was had by all.
  • Pamper Success

Thu 20 Nov 2014 Miss Rogers
A huge thank you to all of you who came and supported our Pamper Evening this evening. Considering it was our first ever one - it looked fabulous and was so, so professional. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and the treatments worked well. We would like to thank our Friends of Great Binfields Team who organised the evening - we do appreciate it. We will let you know how they faired profit wise. Remember if you support these events - all of our children will benefit!!
  • Hockey with Mr Watton

Wed 19 Nov 2014 Miss Rogers
Our KS2 children have been receiving some super hockey coaching from Mr Watton who comes in every Tuesday to train the children. They go through various hockey drills and play lots of small games to sharpen up their skills. The children enjoy these sessions immensely and it is great to have a hockey expert in so we can magpie good teaching strategies too. As you can see from the photographs below we have been very lucky with the weather too - long may that continue!! Many thanks Mr Watton we appreciate your support.
