  • Year 6 Leavers Treat!

    Wed 19 Jul 2023

Today, the Year 6s were treated to an awesome event to commemorate their time at Great Binfields…a silent disco! The children sang their hearts out, partied hard and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing this unique activity as a final send off and congratulations for their time at primary school. The staff had just as much fun as the children and it was great to see everyone having the time of their lives. We all enjoy a bit of healthy competition, therefore Miss Barnett and Mrs Roberts fought it out for the title of ‘Best DJ’ by playing the most loved tunes on our disco channels – you’ll have to ask your child who they thought played the best music throughout the disco! Well done Year 6 – you thoroughly deserved your treat this afternoon.

  • Children's Fair

    Mon 17 Jul 2023 Mrs H

On Friday 14th July we had the first Children's Fair we've had for a while! It has been four years since the last one but the children were so pleased it was back! As I'm sure you can imagine, an event such as this takes a lot of organisation but the children were brilliant. They were clear on their stalls including their titles and what they needed. After a trip to Bookers for Miss Lyddon, we had more sweets than children at one point! Children thoroughly enjoyed both hosting and attending the event and it certainly was an event to remember. The jury is out as to whether or not we'll have another four year gap before the next one ;-)

  • Year 2 Outdoor week

    Fri 14 Jul 2023

This week has been very busy for Year 2 as we've taken part in a range of activities for our Outdoor week! We were fortunate to have good weather for the majority of the week, so were able to spend many sessions outside in the woodland area. We learnt about how to identify different trees using their leaves, enjoyed learning the technique for Hapa Zome and spent time exploring the amazing woodland we have at GBP!

When we haven't been in forest school we have been doing various other activities including outdoor music, scavenger hunts, orienteering, road safety, outdoor poetry, art and we even made our own kazoos.

It is safe to say we have had lots of fun!

  • Transition Day

    Thu 06 Jul 2023 Mrs H

Your children have done you proud today. We know days like today can be tricky for some of your children; but my goodness they showed super levels of resilience! Everybody assembled in the courtyard first thing and there was much excitement as the class teachers (past and present!) took their places outside their new classrooms. This was met with lots of ooooooohs and aaaaaahs! They were incredibly welcoming to our new member of staff and she has had a super day here with us at GBP.

It was lovely to see all of the wonderful activities that your super adults had planned for you. Everybody experienced success today and there was a real buzz of excitement in the air. We are really looking forward to September now!

We hope you enjoy seeing your children in action today. Thank you to each and every one of you pupils of GBP - you showed our school values in abundance today and we could not be prouder!

  • Year R Hillier Gardens trip

    Thu 06 Jul 2023

What a wonderful trip to Hillier Gardens Year R had on Tuesday! The children were super excited to travel there on a double decker coach and took part in lots of activities! These included pond dipping, where the children could observe such creatures as newts,  making dens for creatures such as hedgehogs and squirrels and sweeping nets in the long grass to catch different species of minibeasts,  such as crickets and spiders! We also spent time walking around the beautiful gardens! We were also extremely lucky with the weather and even though there was a little rain, this certainly didn't stop our fun and we even managed to sit under a shelter outside to enjoy our lunch! Well done Year R for your fantastic listening skills throughout the day, and thank you to our lovely volunteers to help make our day out so special!

  • Year 5 Viking and Saxon Day

    Tue 04 Jul 2023

Last Thursday, the Year 5 children arrived at school looking a little scarier than usual - dressed as Vicious Vikings and Savage Saxons! They had a great day filled with brilliant activities such as taking part in a Viking themed dance, making brooches, cooking and eating stew and looking at Viking artefacts. Take a look at the photos to see what the children got up to...

  • Year 3 Stone Age Day

    Mon 03 Jul 2023 Mrs H

Wow! What a day. The children looked so fantastic streaming across the courtyard in their amazing Stone Age costumes as they came into school this morning. It really helped to bring buzz and excitement to the day.

To start, the children selected their Stone Age names and decided upon symbols to best represent them. We then used careful peeling and cutting skills to prep the vegetables for our stew. Later, we headed into the woodlands to build dens and 'hunt and gather' to survive. The children really got into role and were using their learning to explain what each thing they had scavenged would be used for e.g. 'heated' stones to warm water for cooking.

After lunch we built our clay Stone Age houses. The children showed incredible resilience when working with the clay, especially as it was drying out quickly. Finally, we were able to sample the Stone Age stew. It was delicious!

It has been a wonderful day. We hope the children had a fantastic day  - have a look at the pictures to see what we got up to.

  • Treehouse Theatre

    Mon 03 Jul 2023

We had the pleasure of Ben from The Treehouse Theatre come in to work with our year 4 children.  They had a brilliant day, where they learnt a lot about the Romans and Celts and all had the opportunity to appear in a super performance!

  • Year 4 Celts and Romans Day

    Mon 03 Jul 2023

What an amazing Roman and Celts day we have had today!  The children came in wearing their costumes and stayed in character all day.  They took part in different activities including:  learning more about the lives of Celtic Warriors and Roman Soldiers, did some beautiful Celtic art, designed Woad facial paint and they enjoyed some Roman stew which they prepared and cooked for themselves.  We also got out into the woods and had a competition to see which group could design and make an overnight shelter for a Roman Centurion!
