  • KS1 Skipping Competition at Costello

Mon 26 Nov 2018 Miss Lyddon

Today 8 children, from KS1,  represented Great Binfields at a Skipping Competition at Costello School. There were 11 teams entered in the competition and the GBP team skipped their hearts out.

After 2 rounds of events and a final double long rope skip, Great Binfields came.....second. I am really proud of the children for all their efforts, team work and their energy. Well done to all of you.

  • Avon Tyrrell Day 4

Thu 22 Nov 2018 Mrs Osborne

Brrrrrrrrr... after a very chilly start this morning, the children wrapped up warm and enjoyed taking part in their activities. A few of them were very brave and conquered their fear of heights by braving the abseiling tower. Tonight was the disco and the children enjoyed throwing some shapes on the dance floor with Mr Wood! It has been a great week at Avon Tyrrell but I’m sure the children will be glad to see their families and be back in their own beds tomorrow night. A huge thank you to all the children for making it a trip to remember.

  • Year 5 Aim Higher - Winchester University Visit

Thu 22 Nov 2018 Miss Hunt and Miss James

Year 5 had the pleasure of meeting four representatives from the University of Winchester today to discuss their aspirations for the future and introduce them to the idea of studying at university. Beech and Chestnut class were able to meet and interact with current university students and also start to think about how they could make a positive contribution to society in the future, whilst pursuing their dreams at the same time! The children particularly liked the fact that for most courses there are less than 12 hours of compulsory lectures that they have to attend each week, compared to the 30 hours that they are currently in school for. Subsequently, the students informed the children that their week at university also consists of a large proportion of personal study too, among other things! Both classes thoroughly enjoyed their sessions and gained a lot from thinking about their goals for the future.

  • Avon Tyrrell Day 3

Wed 21 Nov 2018 Mrs Osborne

Despite some very windy and cold weather, day 3 at Avon Tyrrell has been fantastic. The children even had a visit from Miss Copping. Today’s activities included high ropes, low ropes, archery and a woodland fashion show. Tonight, the children have enjoyed playing games such as ‘the chocolate game’ and I think it’s fair to say that Miss Copping was the most competitive one of them all!

“I liked climbing the rock wall because I made it to the top.” Calum.

“I like the way the building is so big and there are loads of activities to take part in.” Josh W.

”I enjoyed abseiling because I’ve never done it before.” Jaden.

“I enjoyed dressing Aneeka up in leaves.” Orla.

  • Christmas Tesco Display

Wed 21 Nov 2018 Mrs Harvey

Our Christmas  display is now up at Tesco and the wonderful work was produced by our Year Three pupils.

They have been looking at the work of William Morris, who lived and worked during the Victorian era. After finding out a bit more about him, they looked at some of the key characteristics his art work became renowned for. During the mid-1860s, William Morris concentrated on designing wallpaper. His patterns were inspired by the natural world, and these are some of his best-known works of art. Our Year Threes imitated this style when creating these Christmas stocking designs.

A famous William Morris quote is:

"Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful."

    We quite agree!

When you're next around at the Chineham Shopping Centre, pop in and have a look!

  • Avon Tyrrell Day 2

Tue 20 Nov 2018 Mrs Osborne

Another great day was enjoyed by all at Avon Tyrrell. After a cooked breakfast to kick-start the day, the children enjoyed a day of activities such as: climbing, archery and orienteering. Tonight’s activity was a campfire where the children sang songs, played games and toasted marshmallows. Take a look at the photos to see them all in action...

”I’ve loved all of the activities at Avon Tyrrell!” Connor.

”My favourite activity was the adventure course as it’s a totally new experience for me.” Corey.

”I enjoyed the low ropes because it was challenging and you had to work as a team.” Aneeka.

”Both days here have been a great experience- I love it!” Abby.

  • Fire Service visit

    Tue 20 Nov 2018
Today Year 2 enjoyed a visit from some of the Hampshire Fire Service and Rescue team. They were shown the fire-fighter's protective clothing and equipment, as well as learning about how to keep safe and what to do in the event of a fire.
  • Avon Tyrrell Day 1

Mon 19 Nov 2018 Mrs Osborne
The children had a great first day at Avon Tyrrell. After setting up their rooms, they enjoyed a delicious pasta lunch. Following this, they took part in a variety of activities such as: low ropes, pioneering, climbing and abseiling. This evening, they went on a night walk in the dark around the grounds of the house. The children and staff are all looking forward to tomorrow’s fun-filled day of more activities. Take a look at our photos to see what we got up to. Apologies if your child does not feature in these photos - the WiFi is being a bit hit and miss and would only let us upload a certain number of photos. We will make sure the others get on here in tomorrow’s update.
  • Welly Planting at GBP

Fri 16 Nov 2018 Miss Lyddon

Our tradition of Welly Planting was upon us again today.

A BIG thank you to all of those who donated plants for this event and thank you so much to all the volunteers who helped plant the wellies, after school, with spring bulbs and winter bedding plants to add colour to the dull, winter days and to brighten the bark area. I could see that the children, parents and grandparents really enjoyed themselves. Thank you once again.

  • Greek Day

Fri 16 Nov 2018 Miss Hanafin

Yesterday the children in Year Four had a brilliant day enjoying our Greek Day! Everyone came in looking great in their costumes - all so creative! We followed the creative theme and spent the morning creating Medusa inspired masks using lots of different resources. In the afternoon we then looked at some Greek vases and used paper craft to create our own. Throughout the day, the children were called to do some cooking including lamb koftas, Greek salad and flatbreads. We will be enjoying the feast this afternoon! Mr Wood also pulled us out to do some mini Olympic style games in small groups. Thank you to everyone that made it such a fab day and well done to the children for working so hard.

    What a great day!
