  • Emergency School Closure

Thu 15 Dec 2022 Ms Rogers

This afternoon we had a major leak in the main school kitchen and it's erupted again this evening - linked to our school heating, so we have no choice other than to close school tomorrow (16th December 2022).

We understand that a lot of children will be disappointed due not being able to wish their teachers and friends Happy Christmas, however I'm sure you will understand that this situation is out of our control.

We are so sorry for any inconvenience caused.

    Regards,

    Ms Rogers

  • Gingerbread Houses - Year 6 DT

    Tue 13 Dec 2022

In our Design Technology lessons this half term, Year 6 have worked hard to create their very own gingerbread house designs in small groups. The children were able to bring their creations to life today as we baked, built and decorated a whole village of gingerbread residences across the year group! Miss Barnett and Mrs Roberts were particularly impressed with the superb resilience that the children demonstrated throughout the entire process as they needed to edit, adapt and redesign elements of their house during each stage of the build. I think we can all now appreciate that building a gingerbread house from scratch is not for the faint hearted!

At the beginning of the half term, we started by conducting market research to formulate our very own success criteria, thinking about what makes a successful gingerbread house. Secondly, we created a computer aided design to carefully consider the measurements of each face of our 3D shape. After this, we created a prototype out of cardboard to ensure our measurements were successful. Then it was onto the baking, building and decorating of the gingerbread house itself! The children worked incredibly hard and demonstrated many of our Great Binfields values throughout the day – incredible cooperation, superb resilience and of course, a wonderful amount of creativity too.

Take a look at some of the pictures to see the fun we have had whilst creating our gingerbread houses!

  • That was a super ukulele showcase!

Tue 06 Dec 2022 Ms Rogers

The children really impressed us with what they had learned this term on their ukuleles - in fact they surpassed Mrs Vaughan's expectations. They have very much enjoyed being part of the Listen2Me programme and have learned a great deal due to the previous grounding and depth of teaching they receive. It was great seeing our children feel so proud of their achievements. Well done everyone - we are proud of the effort you have popped in and you have now nailed your first musical concert!

Thank you to the adults who could attend - it is important for our children to play in front of different audiences. Not only does it give them confidence but it also gives the children a sense of value.

I would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Vaughan, from HMS, who has been teaching the children this term - she works in superb partnership with Mrs Irons, our Music Specialist to ensure that all of our children receive a super music diet at GBP.

  • Thank you Great Binfields - what an amazing achievement!

Fri 02 Dec 2022 Ms Rogers

Today was our Christmas Jumper Day and instead of giving a monetary donation we each contributed something festive to eat or do instead - similar to our efforts at Harvest. The response has been amazingly good! An incredible 24 Christmas hampers have been created today which will be given to the Foodbank to distribute to the Basingstoke community. This will make a lot of people smile.

Thank you to you all for being part of something special.
