  • Your pumpkins look fab!!

Wed 31 Oct 2018 Ms Rogers
Here are a few photos of the wonderful array of pumpkins we have on our courtyard. They look absolutely super! Whilst out on duty with me this morning, Mrs Robinson said, 'Isn't it wonderful how our school community gets together to make these events more enjoyable for our children...what great community spirit!' I totally agree. You can see how proud the children are of each others' attempts and how creative they are too... some really lovely individual designs.
  • Year 4 Sweet Shop writing

Tue 30 Oct 2018 Miss Hanafin

Last half term, the children in Year Four had a real sweet shop inspiration for the Scrumdiddlyumptious topic writing. We were set the task to create a persuasive advert that would convince even more people to shop in Ma Humbugs Old Fashioned Sweet Shop in Basingstoke. We read reviews online, looked at photos taken inside the shop, read the shop leaflet and adverts as well as interviewing customers that have been in the shop. We had to take careful notes and listen for key facts that would be most persuasive and interesting to our audience. Then we looked at lots of other persuasive adverts to see which features we would need to organise our own poster. To help us with our language, we did some role play sessions where we took customers on a tour around our mock up Ma Humbugs - we had some brilliant ideas. Finally, we started creating our own posters that would really catch the eye of our reader.  The children worked so incredibly hard on their writing and loved thinking of catchy phrases, questions and adverts to capture their reader. We were very proud of all the children in both classes - which is why they were awarded with a sweet treat at the end and a class window display of all their adverts was created. Each class also had an overall winner who were given a mega mix bag of sweets as well as having their writing displayed up in the shop itself. We are very grateful to Ma Humbugs for letting us use them as our inspiration and for donating such fantastic prizes. What a wonderful writing opportunity that was! We are very much looking forward to where our next writing challenge takes us.

  • KS2 First Hockey session

Tue 30 Oct 2018 Miss Hanafin
The children in Year 4, 5 and 6 have had their first session of their series of Hockey lessons this year. For some of our Year 4s, it was their first experience of Hockey and for some of our older children it was a chance to develop what they have previously learnt even further. There were lots of skills being worked on, communication being developed and of course lots of fun! It was definitely a chilly day which encouraged us to get our bodies moving and working even harder. We are looking forward to next week - don't forget your gloves, spare socks, hoodies and long PE trousers.

Fri 19 Oct 2018 Ms Rogers

To say a big thank you and well done to our children who have followed our whole school behaviour code brilliantly this term, we had our half termly Golden Time. As usual, our Teachers and LSAs planned a huge array of activities for the children to enjoy. It is always a lovely event as our children from all ages get the chance to play and experience something new together. Check out the photographs below.

  • Year 5 and 6 French Day

Wed 17 Oct 2018 Mrs Osborne

Today, year 5 and 6 enjoyed a morning of tasting delicious French foods such as: baguettes, creme caramel, pain au chocolat, brie, croissants, quiche lorraine, brioche and even some red and white wine (grape juice!). As well as this, Miss Brookes came into school to cook croque monsieur with the children.

"French Day was yummy - I liked the pain au chocolate the best, and of course the wine too!" Aneeka.

"I'm a very fussy eater but I liked the creme caramel and the wine!" Orla.

"The food was delicious. The croque monsieur we made with Miss Brookes was fabulous darlings!" Sienna.

  • Year 6 Artist Visit

Mon 15 Oct 2018 Mrs Osborne

This afternoon, Year 6 had a visit from an artist named Liam and created some beautiful Eiffel Tower pictures using acrylic paint.

Liam used a step by step approach to layer colours and add depth and texture. The children created and mixed their own colour palettes, enabling them to make truly unique creations.

Take a look at the photos to see what they got up to...

  • Year 1 Have Gone BANANAS!!

Fri 12 Oct 2018 Mrs Harvey
On Wednesday, Paul from Fyffes banana warehouse visited year 1. He taught us lots about the journey bananas take. Can you remember any of the interesting facts? What is a bunch of bananas called? A hand. What do they call a single banana from the hand? A finger. Did you know, they put a net over bananas whilst they are growing so they do not get sun burnt?
  • Year 2 Subway visit

    Thu 11 Oct 2018

Yesterday, in Year 2, we had an exciting visit from Subway. This was to support our topic Funny Bones. We have been looking at healthy eating and how much fat is in certain products. This week we have been carrying out a project to design a low fat sandwich. We were very surprised with how much fat certain items had in them. Subway then came in to discuss this further and we were able to create our sandwiches! We were taught the correct way to make a Subway and how to wrap them safely so that we could take them home. Year 2 had a brilliant time and we learnt lots about what is in the food we eat.

  • Totally Tennis come to GBP

Wed 03 Oct 2018 Mres Holdsworth

On Wednesday 3rd October, we were fortunate enough to be visited from Phil at Totally Tennis. Years 1, 2 and 3 had a great time in the autumn sun shine playing a range of super fun games, including basketball tennis and tennis keepy uppies!

Everyone really their morning with him and we each received a certificate for how hard we had worked. We also received an invite to a free event on Saturday which lots of us attended.

Thank you Phil for rejuvenating our love for tennis - we can't wait until the summer now when we consolidate what we have learnt!

  • Table Tennis Competition

Tue 02 Oct 2018 Miss Hunt

Eight children from Great Binfields represented our school phenomenally today in our first ever table tennis competition. We were up against some tough competitors to say the least but the children kept their heads held high and battled on through their subsequent games. In total, the children played between 4 and 6 rounds, each consisting of three games against their opponent, with the first to 11 points winning the set. We played against children from St Mary’s and St John’s Primary Schools and really showed them what Great Binfields had to offer. Some of the children that competed have only been in my table tennis club for a matter of weeks so it was brilliant that they felt confident enough to represent our school and gain a little more experience to the variety of tactics and speeds that can be played during the game. Well done Great Binfields! I am incredibly proud of you all.
