  • Avon Tyrrell Day 4

    Thu 19 Oct 2017

Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed their fourth day at Avon Tyrrell today taking part in activities such as: canoeing, pioneering and art in the environment. Despite having a fun-filled, energetic evening at the disco last night, where they all dressed to impressed, the children have really put 100% into their activities today. Another full English breakfast was in store for breakfast today so they were all well replenished. We also celebrated two birthdays today (Mrs Laidlaw and Eliza) and had a slice of cake with our lunch. The adults have been so impressed with the children’s courage, perseverance and support for one another – they have been an absolute delight.

The children are all looking forward to their evening activity and getting packed and ready for home so that they can tell you all about their adventures!

“The adventure course was awesome because we had to work as a team and do lots of activities together.” Ruby

“I loved making a gigantic catapult in pioneering today as we got to shoot tennis balls at different targets.” Erin P

“I really enjoyed art in the environment today because I made an amazing fox hat out of card and autumn leaves! The colours were awesome” Sasha

“There were amazing songs and it was really fun dancing to Whitney at the disco! We even got to make requests for our favourite songs. It was a very fun and enjoyable part of our day.” Katy, Lia and Lilli

  • Treehouse Theatre

Wed 11 Oct 2017 Mrs Osborne

Year 5 and 6 had a great time rehearsing and performing a WWII 'play in a day' with the Treehouse Theatre Company.

The children took on different characters such as: soldiers, evacuees, shop keepers and land workers.

We were really impressed with how confidently they all delivered their lines.

  • Build a Bear

Mon 09 Oct 2017 Miss Khan
Today Early Years went for a trip to Build a Bear Factory to get their new class buddies.  We were very proud of the children's behaviour and they were super representatives of the school.  Stagecoach bus service had been very kind and put on some extra buses just for us.  Once we arrived at Build a Bear, we had a chance to select our choice of class buddies and then we a class vote.  Following this the children helped to stuff the new animal.  Everyone was then given a paper heart which they used to send love, brains, energy and strength into the animals.  We all then made a special wish on our paper hearts before they were collected and all placed inside a heart pouch which then went into our buddies.  Finally we all took turns to give our new buddy a brush and select an outfit for them.  The children voted for names and decided to simply call the buddies Rowan and Birch.  It was a great day out and we are looking forward to sharing many adventures with our new furry friends.
  • Harvest Art for Tesco

Fri 06 Oct 2017 Miss Lemar
The children in Early Years and Year One have been busy creating some stunning Autumn and Harvest artwork. In EYFS the children selected Autumn colours and used leaf stamps to make their own Autumn wreath, which has lovely poem in the middle. The Year One children have been focusing on sketching and had a go at drawing and shading some of their own fruit and veg pictures. These were then collated and added to our giant Harvest basket. This super artwork is on display in one of the windows at Tesco in Chineham. If you are in there shopping be sure to check it out!
  • Year 3 Tesco trip

Wed 04 Oct 2017 Mrs Barnhouse

This morning Year 3 visited Tesco to find out about where in the world our food comes from. We were greeted by Julie who gave us a challenge to find different fruit and vegetables from at least 4 different countries. We were surprised at how many fruit and vegetables were grown in the UK but she explained this will change with the seasons. I wonder what we would find if we went back in Spring or Summer? Why not keep an eye on the labels of your fruit and vegetables at home and see if this changes over the season! How many different countries will you find in your supermarket shop?

The book 'The World Came to my Place Today' by Jo Readman and Ley Honor Roberts is great for finding out more about where things come from. We have been looking at this during our reading time at school.
