  • EYFS Mother's Day Concert

Fri 29 Mar 2019 Miss Khan

This afternoon Rowan and Birch classes held their annual Mother's Day Concert.  Over the last couple of weeks the children have been busy learning songs and poems, as well as thinking about what makes our mum special.  We made a list of all the different things that mums do and the children decided that it must be very tiring to be a mum.  The children had also been doing some artwork of their mum, which they very proudly displayed during the concert.  At the end of the concert the children made a mother's day present with their mum.  Together they planted a bulb and decorated the plant pot.  I am sure they will enjoy watching it grow over the next few weeks.  Thank you to all of the mums for taking the time to come and share our special assembly.

  • Year 3/4 Peace Child Play

Thu 28 Mar 2019 Ms Rogers

Our Y3/4 children produced a wonderful production last week for their parents to watch which had a really lovely story line. The children took us to the far away land of Mambica where two opposing tribes seem unwilling to put an end to their hostility. Only the gift of a new-born child brought peace. The lively and highly emotive songs and moving script was truly wonderful and it was hard to believe that they were only 7/8/9 years old! And now for the thank yous… Thank you to our fabulous children for entertaining us so well with your dramatic, dance and  super singing skills. Thank you to our great Year 3/4 staff team for assisting the children throughout to put on such a grand production. Thank you to all of our 2 audiences for coming to support the children—I know that you all enjoyed it as much as I did Thanks also to our governor, Mrs Worgan for attending too. She thought it was brilliant and has congratulated the children and staff.

  • Easter at Christ Church

Thu 28 Mar 2019 Miss Lyddon

Today, all of the school had a lovely spring walk to Christ Church and enjoyed the church service  organised by Katy and Ruth.

The children learnt about the true meaning behind 'Easter' through the Easter story. During the service we had an Easter Egg hunt! The Church staff hid plastic eggs under our seats which the children had to find. There were 6 altogether. Each number represented an element of the Easter Story.

Thank you Katy and Ruth for planning our Easter service.

  • Chestnut Class get Creative at Costello

Tue 26 Mar 2019 Miss Hunt

Chestnut Class had the pleasure of visiting Costello School this morning to experience an exciting taster lesson and provide them with a flavour of what secondary school might have in store for them! The children took part in a Design and Technology lesson whereby they made and decorated their own wooden peg boards. Miss Young helped to enthuse the children and ease them into their new surroundings.

Chestnut Class - can you remember the material their wooden boards are made from and the different mediums you used to create your projects?

Take a look at our pictures to see our exciting lesson!

  • Traditional tales tea party

    Fri 22 Mar 2019
The children in Year 2 had a fantastic time yesterday at their traditional tales tea party. They seemed to have lots of fun sharing their board games with their adults and enjoying all the lovely sandwiches and cakes they had created. Thank you to everyone who came along and showed their support. The children were over joyed to have you there.
  • Challenge Evening

Wed 20 Mar 2019 Mrs Osborne
Lots of fun was had by all at tonight’s Challenge Evening. It was lovely to see so many children and adults taking part in the activities and showing great growth mindset and resilience. Take a look at the photos to see them in action...
  • Year 6 Pound Workout

Wed 20 Mar 2019 Mrs Osborne
Today, Debs from the Sports Partnership came in to lead a workout session with a difference. The session was a ‘Pound Workout’ which involved banging drum sticks on the floor and in the air to music. All of the children had a fantastic (and very noisy) time. They definitely worked hard as they all went back to class with very red faces!
  • Jungle Jonathan

Tue 19 Mar 2019 Mrs Osborne

The Year 5 and 6 children had a really wild time today with a visit from Jungle Jonathan. The children met Spinderella the tarantula and her baby, Twiglet and Jade the stick insects, Mrs Noah the Snake and Mr Whippy the Tailless Whip Scorpion (as seen in Harry Potter - The Goblet of Fire). Did you know that tarantulas have an exoskeleton which they shed each year? So if you find a 'dead spider' in your house, that's probably its exoskeleton which means that a much bigger version of the spider is now roaming around your house!

Take a look at the pictures to see how brave the children (and adults) were holding some of the critters...

  • Rugby Tournament at Oakley School!

Fri 15 Mar 2019 Miss Hunt

Mr Wood and I shall be beaming all weekend with the pride that we have for the amazing young ladies who represented Great Binfields in the girls rugby tournament this afternoon. With the wind and rain to contend with too, our team of eight strong Year 4, 5 and 6 children shone in their team work , commitment and decision making skills throughout the 6 games that they played. Having won 3 of our games and drawing one too, we progressed through to the semi-finals of the tournament. As the game progressed against Sherborne St John’s, it was clear that we were equally matched with our skill and determination to succeed. After the five minute game had been played, we were neck and neck with a score of 4-4. Subsequently, we played on an extra 2 minutes in which Sherborne St John’s took the win by a cat’s whisker, defeating us 3-2. The girls held their heads high and were proud of their efforts through the afternoon. For some of our new children, who have just started playing rugby this season, it was a wonderful chance to see their confidence grow and provide the opportunity to play with some of our more experienced rugby players. Well done girls! A phenomenal afternoon.

A big thank you to Mr Wood too for inspiring and coaching our wonderful team!

  • Year 5 and 6 Costello Science Visit!

Fri 15 Mar 2019 Miss Hunt

To round off Science Week, Year 5 and 6 had the pleasure of hosting a group of passionate Costello students who have been researching the effects of plastic as part of a GCSE project. This linked beautifully to our focus this week, where we have been asking the question: ‘Can Ocean pollution be eradicated?’ The presentation involved both shocking facts and helpful hints about how we can make a change for the better when it comes to how much single use plastic we use in our everyday lives. Our wonderful guests reassured the children that it would be almost impossible in today’s society to completely eliminate our need for plastic; however they encouraged us to think about the simple, more achievable changes that we can make to try to ensure the problem doesn’t continue to grow. These included: using metal or paper straws, using reusable shopping bags and investing in a hardwearing water bottle that will last much longer and even save money.

The children were inspired by our guest’s confidence and passion to deliver a presentation that had been fuelled by their own choices in their learning. For our Year 6’s, it was a lovely insight into what Secondary School life may look like.

Thank you to our wonderful guests, in particular Maisie Williams for proposing the visit, for delivering such a powerful presentation about a global issue.
